Texas State students offer scholarships exclusively for white males
Group founder Colby Bohannan says his demographic is often left out when it comes to college funding.

SAN MARCOS — Colby Bohannan said that when he first applied to college, his family didn't have a huge stockpile of money set aside to pay for school. He found many scholarships for women and minorities, but none aimed at people like him: white men.

"I felt excluded," said Bohannan, a Texas State University student. "If everyone else can find scholarships, why are we left out?"

So Bohannan, a mass communication major and Iraq war veteran, and others formed the Former Majority Association for Equality — a San Marcos-based nonprofit group that is offering five $500 scholarships exclusively to white male students.

Bohannan, the group's president, said the name comes from the idea that "if you're not a male, and if you're not white, you're called a minority." However, he said, "I'm not sure white males are the majority anymore."

... I guess he has the right to spend it however he likes.

But it would be just stupid if they gave the scholarship to rich white guys who don't need to the money to go to college.

It seems to be academic and extra curricular achievement they care about.

Also the requirement is at least 25% Caucasian, so they are somewhat lenient on the white part

through life's many hurdles so that he can lend assistance to other such disadvantaged students.

That being said, many of TSU's students are economically disadvantaged (white and non-white, male and female alike) without a proper analysis of poverty and class relations, it makes sense that this student is confused about his own humble origins.

and both of them got scholarships. They even had scholarships just offered to them out of the blue, because they had very strong standardized test scores, decent grades, and were graduating from a school that was very strong academically, which made them highly desirable to certain colleges out there.

or an athletic one, or one offered by a corporate, religious, union or military organization? No private schools offering one? Out of the thousands of scholarships? The only way he could get one was by claiming white privilege? That is so amazing and really does suggest he's an oppressed minority!

And yet when I google, I find over 1 million scholarships for white men.
