More Full Out Loon. Even my jaw dropped. NH Bagnuttery.
HB421—Provides that the NH House and the NH Senate will each nominate 1 candidate for US Senate from each party and that no other names shall appear on the primary ballot. A candidate not selected by the House or Senate may only win their party’s primary nomination as a write-in candidate. LOB room 308 2:15pm

Basically this would give the majority party complete control over and selection of the US Senate candidate in an end run around the 17th amendment.

2. The teabagaloons took over the republican party
and the republicans have a 2/3 majority in both houses and they appear to be completely out of control.

6. Probably because only assorted crazy statehouses will give them candidates insane enough
to propose things like laws putting gays, blasphemers, and women who have unexplained vaginal bleeding to death.

9. It isn't. The 17th Amendment is federal and
federal law supercedes state laws. They cannot implement this without getting into it with the feds. Which is probably their purpose in doing it, since they surely must know that it's not legal. They probably want it to go to the SUPCO in the hopes that it will strike down the 17th Amendment but are too stupid to realize that the SUPCO CANNOT, under the law, strike down constitutional amendments. It can water them down so that they don't really mean anything, but it cannot actually strike them down.

What would likely happen if this passes, and if the state's citizens even allow it to happen (which they very well may not, they may not take too kindly to not being able to directly elect their senators), is that the person selected to fill the senate seat would not be permitted to take office. That is when the real fight would ensue, and that is likely what they're hoping for, a federal-state's rights showdown.
