Billionaire Koch Brothers Go to Court after being Accused of Opposing Pollution
Billionaire Koch Brothers Go to Court after being Accused of Opposing Pollution

Most Americans would be proud to be portrayed as working to counter environmental problems…but not the billionaire Koch brothers. Angry over a joke press release pretending to come from them, Charles and David Koch are suing those responsible for the prank in an effort to find out their real identities.

The phony announcement was sent out in December by a group claiming to be Koch Industries, the oil processing company owned by the Koch brothers, who are key Republican donors and serious opponents of the global warming issue. The release (“Koch Industries Announces New Environmental Commitments”) stated that after “a recent internal and thorough company review,” the company would be “restructuring its support of climate change research and advocacy initiatives.”

The Koch brothers filed a lawsuit in a Utah federal court to discover who was behind the stunt and to win damages for “costs associated with spending time and money to respond to inquiries about the fake release,” as well as “investigative and legal expenses” in pursuing the tricksters.

6. Koch brothers believe there is nothing that money can't buy.

Except that concept has one MAJOR flaw. You can't always buy public opinion. Sure, you can fool some of the more gullible, like the teabaggers, but the mask is off. Millions of Americans who never knew the name Koch in the past, are now paying attention.

The Koch brothers don't like bad publicity and have hidden behind their various fake "citizens" groups to push their anti-health care reform. anti-environment, anti-social-safety net, anti-tax agenda. No more.

5. Years ago, I read a book of TV "bloopers"
One blooper entry was a news "man on the street interview" of random people, asking their opinions on current events. The interviewer asked one middle-aged man, "What do you think of pollution?"

The man responded, "I'm all for it!"

7. How dare anyone inconvenience one of the American corporate aristocracy?
I'm sure the purchased judge will offer the death sentence to those who dare annoy or corporate masters.

8. Stay after those greedy, arrogant and sick bastards. They represent
the very worst of American society. Whatever it takes to stop their evil work will have to be done.

10. Dismissed
No reasonable person anywhere would believe that Koch Industries or the Koch brothers would ever take such a principled stance. The announcement was clearly satire of public persons, attempting to portray them as rational actors, putting the good of society against reckless pursuit of the almighty dollar.

A frivolous suit, subject to sanction under FRCP 11. Counsel for the defendants, please prepare your attorney fee petition and cost bill; I suspect you spend no less than {spins wheel on the slot machine o' justice} . . . ooh, a million billion dollars! in defending this ridiculous suit. I'll sign any such petition forthwith.

Judge gratuitous pronounces this proceeding adjourned. {Bangs gavel, which is not what the kids are calling it these days, you filthy-minded little perv.}
