SCLF Calls For General Stike If Walker Plan Is Passed!

The Capital Timesis http://host.madison.com/ct/news/local/govt-and-politics/article_6e4ebcb8-422c-11e0-81c2-001cc4c002e0.html reporting that the South Central Federation of Labor, which has 45,000 members, is endorsing the idea of a general strike if and when Gov. Walker’s union busting plan is passed. This is a pretty big step but it is one that I am glad to see.

Without the right to collectively bargain, you are not a union. At that point there is not a lot left to do but deny management the fruit of your labor if they will not agree to recognize your right of collective barging. It is how Labor initially established their rights in the first place. Since that was more than an entire working life time ago, it is probably time to remind folks like Gov. Walker what it looks like when you can’t run your schools or state offices because all the qualified and trained people are gone.

We know that Walker, who fancies himself the new Reagan, has given some thought to what he would do if there were a strike. He has had his National Guard commanders preparing to have troops do some of the work at the state level, but it is really unclear if they would be able to keep the State going.

..............................

What would make this interesting is that the SCFL is not just state workers they have plumbers, electricians as well as SEIU (nurses and such) and AFSCME members. This means if they did follow through on their threat of a general strike the affect would be felt at more than just the government offices.

4. And won't teaching how to field strip an M16A2 be a violation of district rules?
Of course they could teach the kids how to polish their Reeboks...or maybe not.

5. As long as it's not a planned "one day" thing.
We're beyond that now.

6. Very true.

A general strike is about more than trying to get attention, it is about inflicting pain, that's what gets their attention.

10. If the law is passed I don't see it being a one day thing.........
This WILL get nasty and prolonged. It might even spread into a regional general strike, at least in the midwest. The sympathy, one day strikes would occur in other left leaning states, WITH demonstrations that will probably shut down some cities.

As I said in my other post, I want the Teamsters and other OTR drivers involved. That would make it interstate.

8. For it to really work....

other unions would have to join in, sympathetic businesses would close. As much as possible 'business as usual' should grind to a halt.

9. I figure it would be sparodic and regional........
but I do expect sympathy strikes, ESPECIALLY in other midwest states. And THAT might lead to "one day" sympathy strikes WITH demonstrations in other more left leaning areas.

I want the Teamsters involved, even if unofficially. Those trucks cover a LOT of states. A (literal) slowdown of Teamster OTR drivers, driving 45 MPH on the Interstates. Parchisi roadblocking those interstates.

Fuck 'em. Make it hurt!

12. Now, we're getting somewhere. Demonstrations are just the PR.
They don't change the balance of power.

Something like this does . . .

13. Well apparently Walker is upping the ante.............
with the lockout of the state capitol building. And did I see something about a 24 hour deadline for the Dem state senators to be back in Wisconsin?

This fucker needs to be taken DOWN. Strike and make it HURT!
