Union Violence!
Posted Friday, February 25, 2011 1:38 PM | By David Weigel

MADISON, Wis. -- I really don't plan on digging in on this, but I'm fascinated by the immediate impression that unions are acting violently, or ready to act violently, as they protest anti-collective bargaining bills. There are indisputable examples of union members getting pissed off during a debate with conservatives and shoving people. To wit:

But my point is that tens of thousands of people have been protesting these bills; there is evidence of two to five people being violent. And there are reports of violence that don't pan out.

This Fox headline:

Union Violence in Wisconsin, Arrest Made

http://nation.foxnews.com/politics/2011/02/17/union-violence-wisconsin-arrest-made

(Sounds bad. What happened?)

Police have hand-cuffed a protester at the state Capitol after he apparently tried to charge into the state Assembly.

There's nothing in there that indicates the guy was a union, is there? In fact, the local version of the story is headlined "police hand-cuff Capitol protester," because that's what happened -- a protester tried to run through security. So why call it "union violence"?

3. See, if you don't want to be portrayed as violent in the popular media
Have some of your people strut around with firearms, wearing shirts alluding to the tree of liberty and the blood of patriots, and have other people carry signs that say "We Came Unarmed. This Time." See, that will establish your non-violent bona fides, just like it did for the Tea Baggers the last couple of years. The media were falling all over themselves to out-yammer each other on how non-violent all the Tea Baggers were.

4. Unions are violent, but the ex-con baggers want to murder half our population with guns.

5. If this had been a Teabagger thing, it would've said,
"patriot prevented from exercising First Ammendment Rights", or something along those lines.

Fox News is a joke.
