Saif al-Islam Gaddafi: I'll give of stepping on the red lines b «boot»

Said in an interview with a lengthy and stormy «Middle East»: We are here to stay .. We're not going to Jeddah or Sharm El Sheikh

Khalid Mahmood
Engineer Saif al-Islam said the second son of Libyan leader Colonel Muammar Gaddafi told «Middle East» The National Council on the dissidents, who announced his father's system of government formation in Benghazi does not represent the Libyans did not reflect them in any of the cities. He said Seif al-Islam in a lengthy interview, Asif made by Thursday evening told «Middle East» by telephone from his headquarters in the Libyan capital Tripoli: «They do not represent only themselves», pointing out that if the elections were fair in Libya got the Qaddafi regime to about 80 % of the vote.
Saif al-Islam and argued during the long interview, which lasted about 30 minutes about the fact that the current situation in Libya, saying that things are still under control, and that the system did not lose control completely. He explained that with the exception of Benghazi and Derna, the system still exists, stressing that this is just a cloud of summer and soon will end.

He stressed Saif al-Islam that the Gaddafi family will not leave Libya, and said: «will not turn to Jeddah or Sharm el Sheikh», in a veiled reference to the asylum Tunisian President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali to the city of Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, and the establishment of Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak in Sharm el-Sheikh on the coast Red Sea after the overthrow of their sentences recently.

He scoffed at Gaddafi's son from the possibility of retaining or his family any financial assets in banks outside of Libya, told «Middle East»: «If you find the money to us are old you, the idea of having money to us in Switzerland between us and including the making of mourning joke», in reference to political crisis that erupted between Libya and Switzerland after the arrest of the City of Geneva, Switzerland for his brother Hannibal with his family the summer of 2008 against the backdrop of a complaint made by him Khademan Ptardhma beaten and tortured. Gaddafi's son said that he was still a reformer, but had he sees what he described as violating the red lines that siding with the system, and said: «I shall give to do so (Shoe) I do not fear». He denied knowing the resignation of Joseph trays, former director of the Gaddafi Development Foundation which is headed, but he denied that Mohammed Ismail was killed during a bloody violent confrontations witnessed by various parts of Libya, said that he was still alive and kicking in Tripoli. Sought Saif al-Islam, which does not hold any official position or executive, whether in the State or the Libyan government, to give the impression that the system is not responsible for the killings that took place, and led to hundreds of deaths and wounded in the confrontations that took place between security and military forces loyal to Qadhafi and demonstrators left in peaceful demonstrations to demand the dropping of the system. The following is the text of the dialogue.

...

* Is your conscience comfortable to do now?
    - I'm satisfied with my conscience is strong, because we are right and what I am doing it 100% convinced that the enemy force and confrontation to us is that you want the division of Libya to the east and west, and you want to interfere with NATO and America. It is accepted that the national division of his country, is one who accepts the intervention of national and foreign occupation of his country, who is the national pay children to go out in demonstrations and sentenced to die in their name?

53. Dutch action:action from consular-humanitarian point of view and no military
Three Dutch soldiers are after a failed evacuation fallen into the hands of the Libyan regime of Muamar Gaddafi.

The three were from Navy frigate Tromp in a Lynx helicopter to the city of Sirte flown to two to pick up evacuees, including a Dutchman. It was an action from consular-humanitarian point of view and no military.

After landing they were raided and captured. It happened Sunday already, but it was for security reasons not mentioned so far.

Premier Rutte
Premier Rutte wanted to get rid of little this morning about the Dutch soldiers. The Cabinet had the case rather kept secret. "We are best served in total secrecy," said Rutte in the Radio 1 Journaal. "It is terrible for those three man. Everything is now aimed at them. "

According to Rutte walk soldiers who abroad are deployed always risk. The least where they can count on is that politics is doing everything possible that the risks are minimal and that the military can safely return.

Contact
The two Libyans by the evacuees are transferred to the Dutch Embassy in Tripoli and the country are already out.

There was, according to spokesman Otte Beeksma of the Ministry of defence for the Dutch evacué is no other way to leave the country. "There was urgency in order to get him away."

On the release of the soldiers, according to Defence intense consultations going on between the Hague and Tripoli. Also, there is contact between the frigate and the Libyans.

Secret
For the operation was no permission asked to the Libyan authorities. Sirte, 450 km from Tripoli, is in the hands of Gaddafi. "With the crew of the helicopter goes as far as we know well," says Beeksma.

Parliament wants letter about soldiers
The second Chamber wants a letter from the Cabinet on the situation of the three Dutch troops in Libya. The room is concerned about the three soldiers of the Navy and has a lot of questions

Trade Union
Military Trade Union AFMP/FNV is deeply concerned about the fate of the soldiers. Said Thursday that Wim van den Berg, spokesman for the Trade Union. He calls the Libyan Government at this moment very unpredictable. "A cat makes strange leaps and bounds."

Because the Netherlands is not presently at war with Libya, was the liberation action a violation of sovereignty, said Van den Berg. He understands that Libya has taken the captured soldiers. "A country may not just with a military aircraft fly in another country. We would not pick up as a non-NATO country that Netherlands would do. "

69. k/r -- Only value I can see in this is to reinforce in Gaddafi's mind that destruction of his
own people -- and Libya -- has to be stopped --

and that he is destroying his own family --

Might also serve to give the protesters a period of rest -- but worrisome at same time.

Also, gives pro-Gaddafi goons a chance to move around and multiply.

Some very damaging things also happen against the people beyond what weapons can do --

like kidnappings, intimidation of citizens, bringing in more mercs.

And, especially, worrisome over perhaps secret deals made with Gaddafi?

Exile solution US/UK/Germany are working on is unacceptable. He'll wage war from Chad if he has to, with his sons and daughter at his side.

Mediation for anything less than suicide or ICC also unacceptable. This snake cannot live to continue destroying.

No secret deals. Need that man dead.

I don't see anyone else talking about which is extending this "mercenary" idea

right into these states behind Libya and continuing war from any of them!

Did I miss anyone mentioning that?

"Exile" is also a weird concept, imo, when allegedly the ICC is going to be

chasing him down and his accomplices. Is US suggesting some "deal" -- ?

Do you recall the "retweet" you posted where the protesters have the offer from

army pilots who have defected to bomb Gaddafi -- even if a suicide mission.

I'm really against death penalty and all of that -- but this is quite different

in saving lives -- actual lives. Keep thinking of the huge loss of life here already --

5,000 -- 6,000 -- and probably 4X more wounded!

You know ... I'm surprised one of his own relatives haven't killed him!!

But, things seem to be falling apart within the inner circle -- just not fast enough!!

PS: I've often agreed with Chavez in his criticism of Bush and Obama/USA --

but I'm worried about this one. Chavez is avoiding seeing the Monster -- and imo has

more in mind trying to do Gaddafi a favor rather than the people of Libya a favor!!

...

Two of Colonel Qaddafi’s sons began to fight for control of the local Coca-Cola bottling company, and their battle turned into an armed confrontation dominated by a militia loyal to one of the sons, according to American diplomatic cables released by WikiLeaks. The dispute was settled when Colonel Qaddafi’s daughter intervened, but only after at least one worker was hurt, one Qaddafi cousin was stuffed into the trunk of a car and the Coca-Cola plant was shut down for months, the cables said.

...

But almost immediately, two of Colonel Qaddafi’s sons, Mutassim and Mohammed, began to compete for control of Global Beverage. The feud burst into view in late 2005, just two weeks after the plant opened, when security troops loyal to Mutassim occupied the bottling plant in Tripoli, according to a 2006 State Department cable. His militia occupied the plant until February 2006, blocking production.

...

The State Department cable recounts how on Dec. 28, 2005, “Two military cars carrying armed personnel without clear identification illegally broke into the facility, asked the employees to leave the premises and shut down the plant.” Mutassim’s forces quickly took control of the plant after one foreign worker was injured and some equipment was destroyed.

¶ During the plant’s occupation, managers were initially allowed to enter the plant “singly or in pairs,” but later Coca-Cola employees were barred completely. Over the following weeks, company shareholders received extortion demands from “freelancers” while anonymous callers threatened the plant’s foreign workers with “political problems” or physical harm, according to the cable.

Kadhafi recruiting hundreds of Tuareg fighters: Mali

by Serge Daniel – Tue Mar 1, 5:54 pm ET

BAMAKO (AFP) – Hundreds of young Tuareg from Mali and Niger, including former rebels, are being recruited by embattled Libyan leader Moamer Kadhafi to fight off a popular uprising, officials in northern Mali said.

...

These young people "are going in masses (to Libya). It's very dangerous for us because whether Kadhafi resists or he falls, there will be an impact for our region."

He said regional authorities "are trying to dissuade them" from leaving, particularly ex-rebels, but that it was not easy as there were "dollars and weapons" waiting for them.

Assalat said an entire network was in place to organise the trip to Libya.

No Fortress Europe
Postat den 3 mars, 2011 av Kalle Larsson

Cecilia Malmström, the Commissioner responsible for EU policy on refugees, signed an agreement last year with Libya’s dictator Muammar Kadaffi where the country would receive 50 million per year for three years – in exchange for more effective border control. (http://sverigesradio.se/sida/artikel.aspx?programid=3993&artikel=4368468).This is the EU’s refugee policy in a nutshell. It has built a fortress Europe with walls to the outside world. In order to reduce immigration to Europe the EU is ready to compromise on human rights and cooperate with dictators.

Libya, like many other North African countries, is a transit country where an estimated half a million refugees are waiting to get on to Europe. But to maintain the walls of Fortress Europe, the EU is working with the dictators of North Africa in order to reduce the number of refugees attempting to cross the Mediterranean.

The EU asylum policy costs lives. Every year about 2,000 people who are trying to flee from oppression and poverty drown in the Mediterranean. The common asylum policy that has evolved within the European Union violates the human rights. The Geneva Convention states the human right to seek asylum in another country and to get a just examination of ones asylum application. The right of asylum was, as well as many other human rights, adopted after World War II.

...

I want to see a much more generous and humanitarian refugee policy. I want to see a Europe that lives up to the Refugee Convention and takes responsibility for the unjust world order by offering a safe haven to more people in our part of the world.

62. Here’s What We Can Do to Tackle Libya /By NICHOLAS D. KRISTOF
Edited on Thu Mar-03-11 10:46 AM by sasha031
In 1986, Col. Muammar el-Qaddafi gave an interview to a group of female foreign journalists. Then he invited them, one by one, into a room furnished with just a bed and television and propositioned them.:puke:

They rebuffed him, and after three successive rejections he got the message and gave up. But the incident reflects something important about Colonel Qaddafi that is worth remembering today: He’s nuts.

The Libyan “king of kings” blends delusion, menace, pomposity, a penchant for risk-taking — and possession of tons of mustard gas. That’s why it’s crucial that world powers, working with neighboring countries like Egypt and Tunisia, steadily increase the pressure while Colonel Qaddafi is wobbling so that he leaves the scene as swiftly as possible.
Unfortunately, Mr. Qaddafi has gained a bit of ground in the last few days, at least in the capital of Tripoli. He has used mercenaries to terrorize people and even drag injured protesters out of hospitals, so a sullen calm has returned to Tripoli for now.

Is there anything that America and other countries can do? Yes, absolutely. But, first, a word about what we can’t do.

It would be counterproductive for American and European troops to land on Libyan soil or to start bombing runs because that would play into Colonel Qaddafi’s narrative about imperialists trying to seize his country. The truth is that after Iraq, we just don’t have a realistic option of invading another Arab country with oil.

But what we can do is continue to squeeze Colonel Qaddafi, show resolve and make it clear that his departure is only a matter of time. That resolve won’t change Colonel Qaddafi’s mind, but it can peel off more of the Libyan military. And some of those military officers already are wavering.
http://www.nytimes.com/2011/03/03/opinion/03kristof.html?_r=1&src=tptw

interesting article, suggest read it in it's entirety ...

last paragraph: The more pressure we apply, the more chance of avoiding an apocalypse. A well-connected friend in Tripoli grimly said of Colonel Qaddafi: “He believes that since he has nowhere to go, he’ll take as many people with him as he can.”

64. Chávez's Libya plan is short on detail/ No definite ideas 4 negotiations have been put 2 Arab League
Muammar Gaddafi and Hugo Chávez may be old friends and allies, but it is far from clear whether the Venezuelan president has a plan that is likely to resolve the crisis in Libya.Reports that Chávez has proposed international mediation involving Latin America, Europe and the Middle East are short on detail, except that the initiative has been dubbed the "committee of peace" and is "under consideration" by the Arab League.
There were no definite ideas," the league's assistant secretary general, Hassan Youssef, told the Egyptian paper al-Masry al-Youm. "We need to know the basis for the suggested negotiations and where to start them."Chávez has said the time is ripe for such an initiative because, he claims, the US is ready to invade Libya. The US has said only that it would deploy naval forces in the Mediterranean area in response to the crisis. Not only is there is no sign an invasion is being planned, Washington has backed away from imposing a no-fly zone.

Venezuela, Cuba and Nicaragua have claimed that western powers want to control Libya for its oil wealth. It was, they said, "better to have a political solution instead of sending marines to Libya, and better to send a goodwill mission than for the killing to continue". The appeal of the Venezuelan leader's intervention is that it posits a "south-south" solution in response to the emerging standoff between Gaddafi and eastern rebels. But it raises the key question of whether the anti-Gaddafi forces, based in Benghazi, are ready to negotiate with a regime they say they are determined overthrow. Mustafa Abdel Jalil, Gaddafi's former justice minister and chairman of the newly formed National Libyan Council, has insisted he rejects any talks.
http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2011/mar/03/chavez-libya-plan-short-detail?CMP=twt_fd

the world press keeps claiming what great friends Chavez and #g are.
Pictures of the two of them are all over the place.

I am speculating but, I think Chavez was looking through the prism of the peace keeping efforts G had set up in Africa. Of course #G pretended to be anti imperialistic.
I'm sure whenever Chavez would arrive in Libya, #G would have a Potemkin Village set up. People running in the streets carrying green books professing their great love for their leader.

I think Chavez has already realized that Gaddafi is a mad man and is shocked over the evidence he's seeing.
Potemkin village, green armbands and all to be set up 4 sure but I think Chavez will see right through it. Ppl like Dima Khatib exposing the truth have a lot of credibility w\ him. I hope he can help Libya get mad man Gaddafi to the ICC so they can win their revolution and keep Western powers from turning them

"into a semi-colony, ruled by the United States and its fellow predators from Western Europe, who will seize control of the oil reserves and transform the country’s territory into a strategic base of operations against the mass uprisings now sweeping the Middle East and North Africa"

80. as Dick Cheney said "those that control the oil, control the world"
excellent, thought provoking and discouraging article,...

I have to accept,I live in a country that everything it does is in the self interest of the oligarch. It is never going to change...

as George Carlin so eloquently put it "We're *ucked!!!"

Our hope is South Of the Border can bring sanity into the situation.

peace:)
