One more plea for an injured DUer. .... please send healing thoughts, light a candle, etc for

Dragonfli.

He had a bad fall on some ice, is injured, and lost some money out of his pocket, and his laptop is trashed.

Without breaking confidences, I'll just say that Dragonfli is already in poor health, and this fall has made things a lot worse. He was scraping by on nothing and has now lost the little money he had.

Perhaps worst of all, with his laptop gone, he is facing isolation, and we all know what a killer that is.

Dragonfli has a heart as big as all outdoors, and now he needs you to share some with him... please send him all your good wishes and thoughts!

I wonder if there is an organization that helps people in such straits. If he is elderly, is their an agency on the Aging that can be contacted about getting him some companionship and perhaps a used, donated laptop?

If people have no laptop to donate, but are collecting, this place is awesome. We got a nice dell for my husband there, and a friend with 4 teenaged foster kids bought one of their 5-pak bundles for less than they had paid for ONE..

The best thing about these is the fact that they are corporate turn-ins, so they are not loaded with all the crappola like AOL & all the garbage the new ones often come with..

I wish them both a speedy recovery.

a laptop they don't need, in working order that they could pass along... Some folks have switched over to netbooks and such then back again to laptop. Maybe there's even an extra one of those someone could spare.

but I like the idea of actually providing Dragonfli with a replacement laptop ot some PayPal cash to replace his old one. And does the doggy need a vet's attention? That costs, too.

I am waiting for the ok from Skinner to do just that. I started a thread earlier to get pledges, but it was locked because I did not get permission for that type of thread. I'm waiting to hear back from Admin, so that we can help to get the collection started again. Thank you so much for your support, and know that I support you just as much in this endeavor.

i have a friend in similar straits altho he is not a good DUer i'm afraid he's more one of the evil doers but i still don't like to see anybody on their ass

as for dragonfli...what others said about checking around craigslist or freecycle/freeuse for laptops, it's worth a try, the friend i mention once gave ME a laptop, the circle of fate i guess

in many counties/parishes you can get a free hour of internet each day, even if your ID is stolen or you have no ID, so it might be worth looking into to fight the isolation bugabear, however, if he can't travel to the library because of pain/hospitalization this might not be helpful information...certain righteous library systems have helped me when i had no computer but i have never been completely unable to travel, knock on wood, i'm also aware of shitty ones where you have to have ID/proof of residence of the county in question

Thinking wish-a-do (not sure of the name now) or something like that. I know I can't afford much but I can afford a little. If lots of us contribute what we can to helping Dragonfli out, it should add up to helping with a new laptop. I know he'd said he was very close to losing his place to live -- I certainly would support trying to come up with enough to get a basic laptop and help with rent as much as possible while he heals.

I just checked as I thought I remembered something here about donating computers. I was right. Here we have a computer/electronics recycling company. If they have computers that can be refurbished, they do and donate those to Eblen Charities here. It sounds like Eblen then gives them to individuals. Anyway, maybe not practical but it might be worth doing a quick search for his area to see if there's anything like that.

Your idea about Charity in the area is a good one. Hopefully those who know DrangonFli can check if there is a charity in his area that could find him a Laptop.

We had made DU'ers on the thread wanting to donate, but I was told that getting him a replacement laptop would be better than donations because he doesn't have the mobility to be able to shop and may not have anyone who can shop for him.
