Police arrest 26 in Monroe County dogfighting raid

Police arrested 26 people early today in a suspected dog fighting ring in rural Monroe County after receiving a tip from the U.S. Department of Agriculture Office of Inspector General.

Authorities seized a dog training treadmill, a dogfighting ring, cocaine, marijuana, and more than $40,000 after a search warrant was executed in the 500 block of Ida Maybee Road in Raisinville Township at about 1:30 a.m. Sunday, the Monroe County Sheriff's Office said.

Five dogs of an unknown breed were confiscated, two of them badly injured, police said. Police said two dogs involved were fighting for a championship match, and people were betting thousands of dollars.

Eighteen people were taken into custody at the house. Police dogs tracked eight more in the woods, barns, and walking away from the area, Sgt. Jeff Kemp said. Some of them were arrested two to three miles away, he said, and took more than three hours to find them.

Whether we like to admit it or not, collectively and individually we human beings have a taste for blood and conflict. You exhibit it yourself in wishing upon the participants, the cruelty and indignity they forced upon the dogs. Where exactly is the line between the guaranteed incidental deaths of steeplechasing and those of cock or dogfighting.

The same thirst gets slaked in our various ethnic and ideological hatreds. In our varied and chronologically and geographically varying loathings of "abberant" sexual habits.

It's what gave the Nazis leave to attempt genocide against the Jews, Romany and others, and practice eugenics on their own people.

The righteous have long justified absolutely disgusting behaviour towards others through their beliefs.

Why is it acceptable today to kick the living snot out of any person suspected of looking sidewise at a child? Or simply cuts in front at the bar?
Why do you personally think it acceptable that the individuals present at this dogfight should undergo a process akin to being mauled by a wild animal for their transgression against your(/the public's) sensibilities?
Why does it remain at least somewhat understandable when the target is merely gay?
What (apart from the beliefs involved) makes these cases any different to stringing up an uppity ****** for daring to take interest in a white girl? Or killing your daughter for the crime of miscegenation (look it up)?

Not a bloody thing. What it all boils down to is a basic need in all of us for a whipping boy to "safely" hate with all our passion. Something which gives us a "safe" outlet for the aggression and resentment we all routinely aquire and can not vent on those who are its true authors:- Our bosses and coworkers, our "el Presidente"s, our spouses, our students and neighbours. If the world does not provide us with such a whipping boy ready made, then we will invent one for ourselves.

Wearers of fur, criminals of all strips, perverts (um what's the perversion de jour today?), pick your bloody victim.

Someone, somewhere is gonna get kicked in the fork, and if it's the right someone for you, it will be your fist clenching in satisfaction and not your balls in sympathy. This is what I mean by us all having a taste and need for "blood".

Sick that anyone thinks that people who do this are "perfectly ordinary".
