Poll question: Does the Democratic Party care?
Do you feel that the Democratic Party cares about you and has workable solutions for your problems?

2. As a whole? No.
Actions speak louder than words. Their actions all seem to be to the benefit of the owners at the expense of the People.

40. Do you mind explaining who are the alleged owners are?
I am perfectly fine with the democratic party, even as I disagree with some initiatives. Also, while you are grinding trying to explain who the hell "owners" are, explain how YOU would craft legislation that has a prayer of passing a vote. It is one thing to bloviate and posture, it is another to get legislation passed in the face of a hostile and insane republican party.

24. Welcome to DU.
But I don't think DU has been ruined. Having first come here in 2004, I'd say it hasn't changed much at all. DUers were never hesitant about stating facts when others were too timid to do so. Something I always liked about this forum. The truth is, while there are some Democrats who actually care about people and real issues, the Party doesn't care at all and I am not making it up. The President's own team have more or less made that clear. And it's fine, better to know where we stand than be fooled by smooth talk and campaign rhetoric.

So no, DU hasn't changed much at all.

But you're new, so I suppose you wouldn't know that :hi:

38. Politics have changed. A different party is in power
What that revealed was that there are SOME people who while they deplored certain behaviors while Republicans were guilty of them, they appear to be far more tolerant of the same behaviors since Democrats are in power. But for the most part, a majority of DUers have not changed their positions on important issues despite the disappointing performance of the party they worked so hard to elect.

A lot of work needs to be done to elect real progressive Dems so that these issues can be addressed.

They don't do anything but lick wealthy boot.
The supine acceptance of the Election Steals of 2000 and 2004,
the complete failure to overturn the policies and end the illegal wars of the fascist usurper Bush*, failure to pursue the war criminals that ran our country aground under that usurper, the failure to end the Bush* wars immediately, and the non performance and actual collaboration with fascists in the Senate tell me they're taking a dive.
They're taking money from the same fascists that operate the Republican Party to take a dive for them.
I am very disappointed in the party leadership. To put it bluntly : they suck republican dick.
If there were a glimmer of a chance that taking that vote elsewhere might actually result in fascist defeat I'd do it.

11. Well I don't feel like I can generalize about the Democratic party.
Since my State Senator is one of the Democratic 14, I'd have to say an enthusiastic YES, he certainly does care. And so does my State Assemblyman and my Congressional representative. My US Senator? Sometimes yes, sometimes no?

My Democratic President? Does he care about me? Only when he's campaigning for my vote.

21. I had to stop and think about the Democratic 14 before voting in this poll.
They aren't my representatives (I live in GA) but I still feel like they represent ME in a way. Plus, they represent what I believe is the spirit of the Democratic Party.

I didn't vote in the poll. I'd like to think eventually I could vote "yes" for Democratic leaders in general, but for now, I just have to believe in the WI 14.

28. The minority leader is my state senator
and I met him when he knocked on my door during a campaign, introduced himself, and asked what issues were important to me. Then I found out what a great representative I already had. Living in a place like Madison, thats not a surprise, we have some really good elected officials here.

The Democratic 14 are some terrific people. I am surprised that all of them took this step together and very proud. They do represent all Democrats, and I hope that they inspire Dems all over the countr to act like Democrats.

18. Of course they care slightly more than Republicans
but I am tired of grading on a curve. Every time they have a chance to step up and make a real difference, they water down the issue and eventual bill by compromising away the real change. Money talks - bullshit walks.

25. No. At this point, the Democratic Party is like a rock in the middle of a raging river.
Edited on Mon Mar-07-11 02:33 AM by Lyric
It's not what we need. It won't save us. The river is running too hard and fast for the rock to be anything but a temporary handhold. But the only other option is to let go and take our chances in the river. Sure, that sounds brave...but most of us wouldn't survive that. In fact, the people of the opposing viewpoint WANT the river to kill as many people as it can--after all, the strongest will survive, and to them, those are the only people who matter. Every man for himself, and screw the ones who need help.

Meanwhile the wealthy, who climbed out of that river by scrambling over the backs of everyone else, fly above it all in their golden helicopters, not giving a shit one way or another about those pathetic little people down there struggling in the water.

That's the life we have. That's the WORLD we have.

indeed. You said it very well. I like this especially: It's not what we need. It won't save us. The river is running too hard and fast for the rock to be anything but a temporary handhold. But the only other option is to let go and take our chances in the river. Sure, that sounds brave...but most of us wouldn't survive that. <snip>

That is the way I see it too, though you said it much better than I could have.
