Factory Food Follies: Skip the Skippy
from the Village Voice:

If this past weekend's pop-up got you all riled up about peanut butter, be careful before you run out and fill up on the sandwich staple. Skippy peanut butter is being recalled in 16 states, including New York, due to possible salmonella contamination.

No illnesses have been reported in association with the potentially tainted product, according to MSNBC, but if you happen to have some Skippy in the pantry, check the UPC and best-buy dates to confirm whether or not you should dump it. Products packaged in a 16.3-ounce plastic jar with the UPCs 048001006812 and 048001006782 are affected, including all jars labeled best before MAY1612LR1, MAY1712LR1, MAY1812LR1, MAY1912LR1, MAY2012LR1, and MAY2112LR1.

1. Getting to the point where even the most innocuous processed food is subject to salmonella.
I've made my own peanut butter by just running some dry-roasted peanuts through the food processor with a little peanut oil and a pinch of salt.

7. Yeah! They're not doing their jobs, so get rid of 'em!
Ouch, my brain hurts from teabagger-think. Never get into their heads, it can hurt like hell.

4. I don't see any problem
Rand Paul said that after a few people died from eating something people would just stop buying it
no need for regulations and pesky inspectors
