The Wisconsin Uprising has once again keyed in Laboring Americans’ attention to the numerous corporate mechanisms that daily stifle their life, labor rights and democracy.

Scott Walker is a prime example of a heavily corporate sponsored candidate (even drawing large sums from Arch-NeoCons the Koch Brothers) who plots to destroy working class negotiation tools, while giving away public resources to his billionaire allies. Whether it be lies about how public pensions are draining the budget , selling no bid power plant contracts to Koch industries or using layoffs as a political weapon, Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker has no problems lying and scheming to accomplish the will of his corporate masters.

For example, while the private prison industry has been pumping money into paranoia-peddlers who support immigration-lock up bills like SB1070 , it has also given tidy sums to union-busters like Scott Walker. Walker in exchange seems quietly intent to replace public prisons with the much more expensive, dangerous and ineffective private prison industry (pdf download).

When word got out that Scott Walker was planning a give-away to private prisons, the Governor engaged in internet censorship by blocking access to that link from the Capitol. It didn’t keep Wisconsinites from wondering if Scott Walker would repeat his performance as a state legislator in trying to privatize Wisconsin’s Prisons.

Corrections Corporation of America (CCA), the nation's largest operator of prisons for profit, is celebrating its 20th anniversary throughout this year "at both the company's corporate Nashville office and at all of the more than 60 prisons, jails and detention centers under CCA ownership and/or management."

No word on whether the prisoners will be celebrating with them. However, a new report from Grassroots Leadership sticks a pin in their birthday balloon with a very critical look at the company's management of both its financial affairs and its contract prisons.

There should be ZERO profit motive for imprisoning people. A decent society would absolutely insist on that.

I was amazed that the Wisconsin quarter didn't have a picture of a highway leading to a prison. Tommy sure loved concrete.

No money for schools. Plenty of money for prisons.

No money for healthcare. More money for indigent funerals.
