Suggestions on speakers?
Hey everyone, I'm a member of the Progressive Student Alliance at my university and we were looking for some good liberal/progressive speakers to come speak, we would be paying for expenses and their fees of course and I was just curious if anyone here had any recommendations? I, personally would love to get Alen Grayson or Keith Olberman but I'm sure their both far too busy.

1. I would check out progressive authors who have recently written
a book. They will be glad to speak usually. Contact their agent.

Some of the folks I'd like to hear speak, off the top of my head....

Michael Moore
Robert Kennedy Jr.
Patrick Kennedy
Hill Harper
Anthony Weiner (NY)
Alan Grayson (FL)
Corey Booker (NJ)

You should send letters to everyone you can think of, someone might surprise you and accept the invitation :)

3. I'm in Tennessee.
Personally I'd love to get Grayson and Weiner. They would be great. I figured Anthony would be too busy though since he is in Congress, but I'm going to try and get in touch with Grayson since he sadly lost reelection he might be willing to do it since I know he likes to stay involved.

Roseanne Barr (she's been doing a lot of talk shows lately talking politics, she's good)
Keith Olbermann legally could do it as long as he is NOT paid, he can't make any money until late spring.

6. I'd love to get Stewart or even better Colbert
but they both do nightly shows so I'm not sure how they'd feel time wise. I'm trying to find an address for a few people now, but the only email I can find for Keith is his old msnbc one and the only thing on Grayson is his old Congress site.

8. You probably need to work in conjuction with your university's office....
If you just send an email it might not get much attention.
You're going to have to have official university letterhead or letterhead of your organization.
Have the typed letter sent to them via certified mail with a signature request so that you know that someone actually received it.
I might be wrong, but that's my opinion.

16. They already have a national platform. Most likely the students will hear little more than
what they can already easily access.

11. Hartman is very good. I love his radio show.
Speaking of him, has anyone read his book Threshold? If so how is it?

14. I haven't read any of his books but they are on my
list when I can get copies of them. I believe his latest is free on line at Truthout. I just discovered that his radio show is televised on Free Speech TV if your cable has it. Both the satellite companies, DirecTV and Dish carry it.

Contact Haymarket Books. They can get you in contact with leftist ecology writer Chris Williams, anti-war writer Dahr Jamail, Arun Gupta, Afghanistan correspondent Anand Gopal. They also have current writers on tour and you can check the touring schedule.
