My "Awake the State" Experience
Gas to get to a progressive rally: $4.73

Supplies to make a sign saying "Save Our Schools": $2.89

Decaf mocha for caloric fortification: $3.77

Watching the sprinklers turn on across the road and thoroughly soak the handful of Tea Party counter-protesters on the other side of the street?: Priceless

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm going to estimate only about 300-350 people turned out for the rally in Brevard County ... with perhaps 30 Tea Baggers on the other side of the street. We had NOW, NAACP, Firefighters Union, Teachers, DEC folks and other. Lots of signs in solidarity with Wisconsin, but the primary purpose of the rally was to oppose Rick Scott and his disastrous budget slashing proposals.

The Tea Party signs were hilarious. A number of misspellings and some that would make perfect sense on our side. "Protect the U.S. Constitution" and "We want fiscal responsibility!" come to mind. Yes my dears, that would be our point.

This one must be mentioned: "Think While Its (sic) Still Legal - Impeach Obama and his Commrads (sic)" WTF?!

The turnout seemed a bit larger than many of our local anti-Iraq Invasion / pro-peace rallies so maybe there is hope. I wonder how the other events throughout the state went.
