Arkansas House To Consider Soccer Goal Safety Legislation
Lawmakers in the Arkansas Statehouse are trying to make sure such an ordinary activity, never again turns into an extraordinary tragedy.

Last week state Rep. Donna Hutchinson filed Jonathan's Law.

"I think it’s an awesome, awesome thing. It’s a law that does need to be passed and I think every parent should get behind it," said Elm Tree Elementary School parent Wendi Park.

The bill would establish statewide safety standards for anchoring soccer goals on playgrounds, something Elm Tree Elementary administrators have already done. Although this bill would only affect Arkansas law, it could act as a precedent for a national bill.

There are more than 500,000 soccer goals in the U.S. Between 1998 and 2010 there have been nine children killed under the age of 16 have died from injuries caused by soccer goals and more than 2,000 children have been seriously injured during the same time period.
