2. Yes. And the Tennessee law is one more example of model legislation from ALEC, the American
Legislative Exchange Council.

“It’s refreshing to see Tennessee lawmakers take a stand against the unconstitutional federal healthcare mandate,” said Christie Herrera of the American Legislative Exchange Council, the main proponent of this and similar legislation across the nation. “We thank the General Assembly for addressing this important issue before the true implications of ObamaCare hit home.”

This page, a story from last summer, specifically explains that it's model legislation from ALEC:

This sort of thing is why I've been posting topics about ALEC.

3. There's a health-care cooperative bill in Colorado.
Edited on Wed Mar-09-11 01:31 PM by backscatter712
This one's a good one, is SB-168, which would implement a health care cooperative. It's sponsored by Rep. John Kefalas (awesome guy!) and Sen. Irene Aguilar, and has the support of the other Democrats in the General Assembly.

More information on Colorado health care bills, especially SB-168:

http://www.healthcareforallcolorado.org/

According to the status ( http://www.leg.state.co.us/CLICS/CLICS2011A/csl.nsf/StatusSenate?openFrameset ) it passed out of committee, made it to the Senate floor, where it's been laid over until Mar. 18th.

I'm hoping it doesn't get killed in the House - the GOP controls the Colorado House unfortunately.

5. I'm not sure.
Part of it may be the budget cuts - the state of Colorado has a 1.3 billion dollar hole, and that's resulting in brutal cuts all over the place - Hickenlooper wanted to close 4 state parks, a prison, cut $300M in K-12 funding, cut higher-ed funding, etc. etc., and some health care benefits may be part of the cuts.

7. I'll take a look around.
Right now I'm working as an intern in the CO state capitol, so I'll see if I can figure out what's up with that.

The Republicans might have tried putting forth a bill to do that in the House, but it won't survive the Democratically controlled Senate.
