People things are VERY CALM in Madison
how can I tell? I am listening to Madison PD comms. I have never ever heard such a calm radio traffic when essentially you have 20K people in the streets.

Yes I am rusty... on the 10 Code and there are some that are different from the ones I once used, but this is a very calm EMS\PD system. Granted, I have no access to the tactical channel... on the APP I downloaded, but this is as quiet as I have ever heard a communications system. The alert tones are driving me nuts. But that is another matter.

Hell they are even going on a mutual aid call... on another town... which means... they don't expect anything major.

1. Not at the capitol.
Lots of people inside yelling "let them in", referring to all the folks outside trying to get in.

Not violent, but I wouldn't call it calm.

3. From the point of view of PD it is
they have cops, they have staged officers, but that is about it. They got cops on standby... but Capitol Police has not gone HELP.

I have been in a few riots (As EMS Commander) and a few other MAJOR things, like VIP visits, and disasters. The tone on the radio is very calm, very professional, very non chalant.

That does not mean there are no cops at the Capitol, but from the POV of PD... it is ALMOST a normal day.

As I said, they are switching people from staging to regular patrol... it gets boring to be on staging... been there, done that... but it is a very calm thing. Eerily calm in fact.

If they were on a major mutual aid to the Capitol... the tone would be different.

Latest via FB via twitter:
"MikeElk: Madison Police and Dane County Sheriff have refused to remove protesters, Walker has called in State Troopers to do job #wiunion"

Listen to the WI Troopers scanner in Madison.

with how it works.

Damn I will need to listen to them for a few minutes to see how it "sounds."

Of course if they are on a local TAC channel, good luck, that is not online.

6. The point being that it's a lot more difficult to judge a situation from scanner traffic now that
the police use it so little anymore. I don't see how you can make a statement about how "quiet" it is in Madison when we've got reports from people who are actually there.

7. It is not quiet from the point of people in the streets
it is quiet from the POV of police activity. They are even responding on mutual aid to a town near by.

It is jumping, as in 25K people at the plaza, that went through the traffic, but it is quiet from the point of view of ARRESTS, having to mobilize people, sending people to jail.

As a former EMS worker the meaning of quiet is different when it comes to the radio than what you are thinking. And from the point of view of dispatch, it is pretty quiet and normal sounding.

13. She's saying the radio is quiet, not that the crowd is quiet.
I judge my radio all the time, don't you???

15. As in POLICE RADIO Traffic
it went through that they had over 25K people there. Not official and they were waiting for media.

But for cops, it is a very quiet night. Usual traffic stops, medical calls and car crashes.

It is "quiet" in the sense of EMS and Police.
