Ok folks this is not a minor thing. We have entered a great escalation in this. As a historian this is not minor. Realize that wild cat strikes are not common in this country any more, They were once a great tool of labor. There was a time when they just happened... and they were repressed with great force. What we are seeing is a return to the 1920s, and the struggles of labor have been set back by almost a century. Some people are afraid of the S word, Well, say it with me, STRIKE. Say it AGAIN STRIKE. Repeat after me STRIKE. This is the great thing that will have to happen. Our Radical Republicans have yet to really pay the price for their policies... STRIKE... it is the tool the worker has. It is the tool we have surrendered over the years in exchange for bargaining and good working conditions. They have violated that Social Contract, STRIKE... say it with me again, STRIKE. Now let me warn you. This is not an easy thing. Strikes are not romantic, and in the past people did die, and get roughed up. But that is the tool of the worker. Say it with me, STRIKE. Repeat it, STRIKE. When a people are given no other choice resistance is NOT futile. It may take years, but the war has finally been joined.

8. a quick google search
is not enlightening. many right wing page results. the biggest suggestion was to fire all the teachers. another suggested bringing them up on charges. another snottily mentioned "i'm a libtard. i choose what laws to obey" which seems extraordinarily ironic considering what walker and his lackeys have done. not to mention the entire 8 long years of gw.

i want a live stream.

10. I like that WEAC and others are thinking first and preparing.
We have strike as a tool, but timing is important. Our big effort needs to be recall. I'm not saying we can't do both, but I don't think it's time yet.

Edited on Thu Mar-10-11 02:49 PM by socialist_n_TN
see where it goes from there. I'd say the timing would be WHEN Walker signs the bill. And remember, this is to MAKE IT HURT! Shut down commerce. Make it difficult or impossible for even people who WANT to go to work to get there. Shut down stores and plants with peaceful, sit down occupations. DON'T BE AFRAID TO BE ARRESTED. It'll happen, but it's not the end of the world. I've been arrested twice before and I survived. And I expect to be arrested again SOON!

A strike is the ONLY weapon the working class has. Make it count!

Edited on Thu Mar-10-11 03:18 PM by JitterbugPerfume
when I was a kid . Daddy didn't work for months on end and we were hungry , but for free lunches at school . The National Guards policed the streets and there was violence. This could get very ugly. People do not go on wildcat strike until they are backed into a corner and have no other option. They deserve our support and our love.

daddy was a life long Republican

41. Strike!!!
Labor IS Capital; autonomy is its means of Real Value negotiation.

Strike is an essential expression of the autonomous understanding Labor's own Real Value, it's Labor Capital, which, like all good capitalists, Labor seeks good investment value for its capital, real value in exchange for real value. Strike is a necessary tool in establishing this economy.

28. one of the few things I remember clearly when young
was my Mom being part of a wildcat strike against acme boxes in Cleveland in the early 70's.

It was dangerous is why I remember it so well, many cars were vandalized and a few heads busted.

Be careful, all who join and I hope you kick their asses.

31. There was talk that if Workers went on strike
Edited on Thu Mar-10-11 07:19 PM by AsahinaKimi
Walker would fire them all, and bus in his own paid privatized people. Maybe he is planning on sending a boat to SHANGHAI and bringing workers to America! After all, whats the first thing Republicans do when they want to shut down a plant? They go to China to build a new one and hire cheap labor.

(Hey, maybe we should start a rumor that Walker plans to bring people from China to work cheaper
as State employees.. That would make Tea bagger heads explode!)

38. If 100 people join a strike... no problem
if 90% of workers do.. the dynamic changes radically and not in Walker's favor. Why strikes are also a numbers game.

Yes, the uproar in Madison and other places really is organic in ways perhaps even the protesters themselves don't understand.
