Troxler, St.Pete Times.."as long as nutbags are in charge of Florida" prevent "permanent" damage.
Howard Troxler spares no words in this column about a bill which will require the state to contract with Jack Nicklaus to put golf courses in state parks.

And yes, it does appear "nutbags" are running the show right now.

Troxler points out that either this kind of stuff is what the people of Florida want, or sooner or later they will do something about it.

Golf courses in state parks 'the worst idea in history'

So, cut the schools. Bust the unions. Chain up the pregnant women. Strut about guns. Pave the state. Let corporations run wild.

Either this is what the people of Florida want, or else sooner or later they will do something about it. That does not mean D instead of R. It does mean actual grownups instead of sheer nutbags.

But as long as nutbags are in charge of Florida, my attitude is much like that of my friends raising teenagers: Try, when you can, to prevent permanent damage.

Troxler then mentions Senate Bill 1847 and House Bill 1289, which would require the state to contract to build a series of golf courses…in Florida's state parks.

Not just any golf courses, mind you. They would be designed by the legendary golfer Jack Nicklaus, a Floridian and an accomplished course designer. The first 100 lines or so of the bills contain a series of "whereas" clauses that heap deserved praise upon Nicklaus. Just for a sample:

WHEREAS, there is no name more synonymous with greatness in the sport of golf than Jack Nicklaus, winner of a record 18 professional major-championship titles …

And so forth. The bill goes on to create the "Jack Nicklaus Golf Trail" in Florida's state parks, requiring at least five such courses around the state, and orders the state government to contract with Nicklaus to design them.

All I can say in our state's defense is that there are still some who are trying to make sense.

Yes sir. Lets build Golf Courses for the rich at taxpayer expense but if a baby is hungry and the family has no money Ric Scott say 'Tough Sh*t poor person, it is your own fault that you are not a billionaire, Die poor people because you are useless'.

5. Please read the rest of Troxler's column. It's amazing.
"The weirdest and saddest thing is the hostility that the Legislature has toward the physical Florida itself.

To tear up the state, to pave it, to block the wetlands, to replace them with drainage ponds — to divide up the habitat of panthers and bears — to repeal the growth laws — to kill Florida Forever — and now, even to redevelop the state parks as golf courses! — this is "conservative." Sure.

By an old, old account, this world began with paradise, and with Certain Parties eager to destroy it. Well, brother, nothing much has changed."

6. but jack is gonna build the first one for free,
of course he gets the naming rights to our land, then the other 4 will be only 250 million dollars each. Each will have orangeglow tanning bed facilities so john boner can feel at home without having to use spf85.

I read the column and wasn't surprised at all with what our legislature wants to do. If they could only stop this damn humidity they might even go outside once in a while.

I love the few days of spring when the air is moderate and dry. It goes too quickly.

11. Jobs
Just think of all the jobs it will create. Keeping the greens nice, bringing drinks and food to the rich folks. I'm sure exited, maybe get 8 bucks an hour after a few years...if I work hard.

Thanks so much Massa Scott.

12. Just look at the jobs. And count what they took away from other areas.
You are right, service type jobs. They took away over 24,000 jobs when Scott denied the bullet train.

14. Insane Florida
Edited on Thu Mar-10-11 10:35 PM by Duck
As you might guess, I live here also. Remember years ago when they were pushing to get the lottery here...the big sell was that the profits would go to improving schools and education. We saw how well that worked out.

Did I say insane? I have two neighbors that believe all the schools should be closed, after all, everything you need to know is in the Bible. True story!

....and yes, I know there are good people here too, just not enough to keep the crooks out of office.

15. lol we must have some of the same neighbors.
We have learned never to discuss anything important with them. The other day someone mentioned how they stood with the teaparty on every issue. They wanted no government at all in their lives. I had not said a word about anything, but then I said are you willing to give up your social security. One lady looked at me and said what does that have to do with it?

Really.

16. I am quite upset
We need to fill the streets in this country! Those who stayed home in the mid-terms you need to come out now. To win the war we have the numbers. They play divide and conquer. Now is the time every American needs to come together no matter the party. It's past that. This is class warfare. I keep feeling as if the Republicans missed the lesson on the French Revolution!I keep hearing the song from Le Miserables. Do you hear the people sing ,singing the songs of angry men.
