Lungren On King Hearings: No One Complained About Scope Of Hearings On Neo-Nazis Or The KKK (VIDEO)
Rep. Dan Lungren (R-CA) said that it's unfair to criticize Rep. Peter King's (R-NY) hearings on Muslim radicalization for having a "singular focus," because the hearings are "looking at a specific problem and we're trying to deal with it" -- just like similar panels, he said, that dealt with neo-Nazis, the KKK, and militia groups.

"I have been on panels that have investigated the continuing presence of Nazi war criminals in the United States," Lungren said, "and whether or not we should continue to investigate and prosecute them. I have served on panels that dealt with the war time relocation of Japanese Americans and Japanese nationals, that was limited to that."

"I've been there where we've examined the Ku Klux Klan," he continued, "but we didn't go beyond that at that time. And when I was Attorney General, we did investigate skinhead groups and militias. And we were not criticized, or if we were, I didn't think it was reasonable criticism to say we didn't look at other gangs at that time."

2. Were those hearings before Congress? And those are hate groups and should be investigated... but

Islam is a religion. Its not a hate group. Muslims subscribe to a vast array of ideologies and you can't just lump them all into one basket

The analogy that comes to mind is that "Christianity is to the the KKK and Skinheads as Islam is to Al Qaeda. "

Edit:

Also, a hearing before Congress and an investigation by the Justice dept. are two different things entirely.

Congress is basically asking the Muslim community to answer for terrorism as if it is they are responsible for it on the whole. The hearings alienate Muslims families of 9/11 victims, Muslim first-responders and other Muslims who assisted at ground zero, and the Muslims who are working with law enforcement.

I wouldn't be surprised if they trot our some anti-Muslim bigot like Pamela Gellar to testify.

5. they weren't investigating all German immigrants, or all Southern White Christians.
That's the difference. It's racist.

6. Reminds me of when Newt Gingrich claimed that the NYC Islamic Center....
....near the WTC was akin to putting a Nazi sign next to the Holcaust Museum.

9. Ah, so American muslims in general are the equivalent of the KKK?
If that logic is to be used, then the hearings that dealt with the KKK, neo-nazis, militias and so on should have instead been called "hearings on Christianity."
