The CRISIS many of us have spoken about is now HERE
Edited on Thu Mar-10-11 05:49 PM by nadinbrzezinski
now realize there are several points to be made.

Some folks who otherwise would be your allies, will get weak in the knees. What is before us is easy to speak off in academic ways, different when you need to raise a strike fund, and set First Aid Stations, and police your own people for yes, rats. A few... not many, in the astroturf movement, will have waking up, coming to Jesus moments. But the battle is now in the streets. It will not be short and in the beginning they have most of the balls. Leaders will emerge, and it will spread.

This is the beginning of a long war... but at least it is now actively joined. I do not know if it will take months, or years, I actually think we are now in a generational fight... but the battle is now here... the crisis is here.

Let me add a symbolic photo...

2. It's going to be a slow simmering crisis.
We aren't nearly there yet. But we have been making insane choices at the polls.

3. The crisis is here
how we respond to it will be telling. Methinks it will not be like the Radicals believed.

6. We're very spread out.
And the cascading effect...I have no idea how it will go. But yes, the grab is on now. The states won't act the same, though. Do they all have recall laws? Because I never heard of recall in New York, for instance.

I have no idea how this will play out. But it really is as bad as you think it is. And plenty of Americans have no clue it is even happening.

7. You're right, nadine...
But what the hell do we do? I was horrified when Ronald Reagan (GE spokesman) was elected in 1980. I was horrified when he destroyed the Air Controllers union. I was horrified when the Presidential election was stolen in 2000.... and when it was stolen again in 2004. To say nothing of the bullshit war on Iraq and the interminable mud pit of Afghanistan. The election of Obama buoyed me up all the way through his inaugural address. And then what? I see by today's posts that the "Comfortable Shoes" Administration has "angrily" counseled against a strong Democratic reaction to the events in Wisconsin. So what the hell do we do? I guess I'm just a tired old New Deal Democrat, but I've felt that the crisis is here for a long time now.
So what do we do?
I'm sorry if this looks like I'm angry at you, nadine. I'm not, I'm always grateful for your posts.
But...again. What do we do now?

You want some inspiration? History has cycles. I know toynbee is a pain to read... get yourself a copy of the Fourth Turning.

It will make sense.

4. It is not generational. It is ideological.
If you start excluding older folks you are limiting your allies.
I know many baby boomers that are more progressive than most people on DU.
Our weapon is the people.

10. Agreed...
Although the battles will be fought here and now, the war will continue into the next generation.

I can only report from my perspective but my kids and their friends and schoolmates know a hell of a lot more about what is going on in politics than I ever did as a kid. And they are active. It gives hope.
