Does The Right Have An Obsession With Gold Investment (Scams) At Present?

Is there some link between the Right and all the gold talk? Hasn't Fox News been pushing this with their commercial advertising? Wasn't there some scandal about Glenn Beck pushing it? I hear people on the Right talking about this endlessly.

Conspiracy theories involving the FED and the Gold Standard

to bring back the Gold Standard. Some have always
been suspicious of the idea of "paper" money in that
the Fed can print as much as they see fit. Gold means
you have a object of value equivalent to the money amount.
People who have a problem with the very idea of a Federal
Reserve are the usual ones who are hot on Gold.

When people fear the economy is going into bad recession or
depression or some sort of crisis they flock to Gold. People
who fear , really fear big deficits, they fear the economy
will collapse, if they have some real gold, they have value.
that would see them through hard times.

The Gold Commercials are everywhere. Fox may be doing
the Deficit Hawks bidding--scare the people so they will
let us cut cut cut and get rid of these entitlements.
This sounds more like a Fox Motive.
