Help needed -- List of Koch Bros. front groups.
This is what I have so far--

Americans for Prosperity

John Birch Society (co-founded by father Fred Koch)

Kansas Policy Institute

Reason Foundation & Reason Magazine

CATO Institute

Heritage Foundation

*******

What am I missing?

(And please, no snarks about why don't you just google it?. I've googled this every which way from Sunday. If Googling answered every problem, we wouldn't have to discuss things here, would we?)

Thank you . . .

4. Please don't overestimate the Kochs' influence on these groups.
They contribute to these groups, but an organization like ALEC, the American Legislative Exchange Council, goes way beyond the Koch brothers.

What you're dealing with here is more than 30 years of collusion by rightwing politicians and business interests, with a group of billionaires having a lot to do with getting this started.

The Koch brothers are getting a lot of attention now, but you can't understand how this all got started unless you research the Coors family, Richard Mellon Scaife, and so on.

5. About Richard Mellon Scaife, from SourceWatch:
http://www.sourcewatch.org/index.php?title=Richard_Mellon_Scaife

Scaife was a primary source of money used to fund attacks against Bill Clinton during the Whitewater and Monica Lewinsky eras of his presidency. He has also been known to purchase mass quantities of conservative books (especially those published by Regnery Press) to push them up the bestseller lists.

Among the right-wing organizations substantially funded by Scaife are the Heritage Foundation, the American Enterprise Institute, Judicial Watch, Cato Institute and a working group within his American Spectator publication called the "Arkansas Project," whose specific aim was to locate and create dirt on the Clintons in order to smear them, in hopes of removing Clinton from office.

People for the American Way estimates that the Scaife Foundations have channeled in excess of $340 million to right-wing groups over the last thirty years, more than any other individual.

9. I don't. But simply referring to some of these groups as "Koch front groups" completely misses the
point of how many corporate interests are involved and how complex and intertwined this is. Just as it would have been wrong during the Clinton administration to think Scaife was the only one to worry about. Hillary Clinton called it a vast right wing conspiracy, and that was a perfectly accurate description of it.

18. Re the Kochs just being part of the problem -- this topic links to a chart showing money spent on
lobbying in the last two years:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=439x620317

Koch Industries is listed, but spent only $20 million, compared to $276 million spent by the US Chamber of Commerce. Whose funding is also very questionable:

http://thinkprogress.org/2010/10/05/foreign-chamber-commerce/

Sometimes, while trying to understand just what we're up against, it's tempting to focus on just one figure, or a few. It's the Bush family and/or Scaife and/or Rove and/or the Koch brothers, and/or....

Right now the Koch brothers are especially obvious.

But the problem is so much wider...

The more we know, the better.

These assholes have been operating in the shadows for FAR too long. Good thing we're starting to open the windows and pull back the shades on them.

17. You should check out Conservative Transparency, part of Media Matters Action Network, for more info:
http://mediamattersaction.org/transparency/

This is SourceWatch's page on Conservative Transparency, which they consider a complement to their own Front Groups portal and astroturf information:

http://www.sourcewatch.org/index.php?title=Conservative_Transparency

Link to their Front Groups portal -- look at that list of groups, each a link to a page with more information:

http://www.sourcewatch.org/index.php?title=Front_Groups

Link to their page on astroturfing:

http://www.sourcewatch.org/index.php?title=Astroturf

Media Matters Action Network is of course part of Media Matters for America, which was founded by David Brock. His book Blinded by the Right is fascinating reading. This is a link to Bill Press's review at CNN.com:
