Several hundred protesters lining a road along Washburn's lakefront greeted Gov. Scott Walker's motorcade and other attendees of a Republican Party dinner at the Steak Pit on Saturday night with signs demanding Walker's recall and chants of “shame, shame, shame.”

“This is not the end of anything. This is the beginning,” State Rep. Janet Bewley (D-Ashland) told a crowd of 1,000 to 2,000 people, depending on the estimate. “My friends, it's show time!”

State Rep. Nick Milroy (D-South Range) referred to Koch during a speech at Stagenorth. “Now (Walker's) running around the state saying we're broke. Well I'll tell you what. David Koch ain't broke,” Milroy said to a cheering crowd.

When asked after his speech how he would eliminate the projected $3.6 billion deficit, Milroy said he would focus on eliminating tax breaks for corporations. “I think if the governor is going to ask the public sector employees to take an eight to 20 percent hit in their take-home pay, why wouldn't you ask the same thing from the people that are independently wealthy?” Milroy said. “Why wouldn't you ask the same thing of people who work in the private sector or have trust funds...?”
