Class sizes? They're in the teachers' union contract.

School start times and the frequency of kindergarten music classes? That's in the contract, too.

Some union contracts, such as the Columbus Education Association contract for teachers, are filled with specific provisions that govern the way business is done. Others, such as the Columbus police contract, lack specifics but contain broad language that restricts the city from making changes without first consulting the union.

1. yeah, and who's going to catch the brunt of it
when the parents are upset that Johnny isn't doing well in his class of 60 kids? Are they going to go berate their republican governor and legislature? Noooooooooooo, they're going to go piss and moan to the teacher, because obviously it's her fault that she isn't devoting enough time and care to their special little Johnny.

who's going to catch the brunt of it when the prisoners find out that they lose their early-release programs (in WI)? Are the prisoners going to call their legislators? Nooooooooooo, they're going to take it out on the correction officers, who have had to take a cut in pay themselves.

It just goes on and on...

2. Republicans DO NOT CARE about the education or advancement
of children or the middle class workers.

REPUBLICANS do NOT want intelligent constituents.
Republicans do not want to be held accountable for ANYTHING.
REPUBLICANS want to die on a bed of money.

3. The real reason behind this "movement" is 2012
Public employees unions are major fund raising and organizing groups for the Democratic party. Weakening unions overall is just gravy.

4. Absolutely. The underlying goal is to prevent Democrats (ie Obama)
from having enough money to run an effective campaign against the Corporate Machine. I agree totally.

5. True that is the goal. The rest is just collateral damage.
It is not like they care who gets screwed. Their kids will be in private schools.
