Those of us who have grown up in the nuclear age have heard all our lives
about how dangerous a nuclear meltdown is but the past few days there have been people here trying to talk it down and, all of a sudden, the very media that taught us how dangerous it is is now telling us it's no big deal and the radiation will dissipate.

So which is it?

2. Coming from the duck and cover generation and
actually having neighbors who built bomb shelters, it never really felt real to me until now. Now I am really scared. Especially with the clusters of 8+ magnitude earthquakes happening around the world and our global indifference to fucking around with the laws of physics, nuclear annihilation is beginning to seem plausible.

7. Everything you said Cleita.
Seems like all the people in decision making positions about most things have their heads up their asses. And that's the biggest tragedy of all. So much of human suffering is unnecessary.

4. I have joked that
I wish I had a school desk right now because they implanted in my little mind as a true safety device. I remember looking up at the bottom of the desk and seeing the wads of chewing gum and contemplating how they might relate.

Duck and cover was a psychological travesty to me. They were not protecting us from anything. Instead, under the guise of national security, they were anchoring us to that desk and trying to keep us from looking out that dangerous window, (daydreaming) so that we would, as Agent Smith said, do the program.

One thing we should have learned from that conditioning was that bureaucracies lie big time about serious safety issues and in ways that we should not appreciate at all these days.

We also should expect that managing the reaction of the masses is job one and the rest is commentary. No surprises, in that case.

5. That protective layer of old gum.
:)

I've been thinking the same thing. Maybe we should all locate our nearest public school hallway. It might calm us down a little.

6. Well, lookee here! Rush says it was them anti-nucular hippie enviromentalist
Edited on Tue Mar-15-11 10:34 PM by Zorra
greenpeace type librul fags what spread all them dirty lies about the dangers of nucular meltdowns cuz they gots an agenda. Thass right, an agenda! Jes look at whats a hapnin in Japan. Why, they got everything under complete control. I told ya. I knowd it from the start. It was them bleedin heart librul commies spreadin' lies. Nucular power's even safer than wind n solar in the long run cuz the wind is gonna stop blowin n the suns a gonna stop shinin'. Now we knows the real truth, cuz like we all know Rush speaks pure truth beyond like whats in the Book of Leviticus. And he's right, no matter how many people gets kilt or poisoned, it don't matter so long as things are convenient for us an ain't no rich millionaire republicans like Rush hisself gits hurt or kilt Cuz theys the ones what keeps our wages all the way up to $5.50 an hour. Ya know, I think ol Rush might be almost 'bout as smart as ol, George W. Bush, maybe even smarter than the sainted Ronald Reagan his very self. Can I get a ditto?!?

March 14, 2011

We cannot grow an economy with wind energy or solar. It isn't practical. There is no concentrated form of it. You can't even guarantee it. The wind will stop blowing; the sun will be obscured by the clouds. So all of our energy sources, all of our options have dangers, have risks inherent to their existence. Look at the deaths due to coal mine disasters. That's all in the name of fulfilling our energy needs. Natural gas explosions? Even the occasional oil rig explosion, the occasional oil tanker springing a leak. In the context of all this, nuclear really is our safest option in the long term, especially with newer technologies.
snip--
The China Syndrome movie, it's a never-ending panic. Anti-nuclear energy is as much a part of the leftist agenda as public sector unions are. Stopping them, being opposed to nuclear power plants, they are as adamantly opposed as they are in favor of public sector unions -- or anything else in their agenda. And I'm sorry, folks, when there's a political agenda attached to anything, "Hello, El Rushbo?" That's when we get into gear, because these people (media, leftists, whoever) want to try to hide behind the notion they have no agenda, that they're just reporting the news; and they're just concerned about people, just concerned about public safety.
