Seal yourself in your home (with duct tape?)
where the fuck have we heard that bullshit before?

The radiation leak caused the government to order 140,000 people living within 20 miles (30 kilometers) of the plant to seal themselves indoors to avoid exposure, and authorities declared a ban on commercial air traffic through the area

I suppose if the duct tape had lead covering......and you could completely wrap yourself in it.......

I think it's way way worse than they are letting on.........

12. It does
Remember how old Duck-n-Cover showed us that pulling a picnic blanket over yourself and your family protect you if you happened to outside when the bomb was dropped.

13. Oh yes, and crawling under your school desk will help immensely, too.
I am a few years too young to have had this program in my elementary school, but have seen the "duck and cover" film a number of times. We did have air raid drills in school. I remember planning how I would "save" my family should the sirens go off. It is so sad that they put little kids through this...

3. I thought that the duct tape and batteries were to keep out
the bioterrorists.

Wow. Duct tape is really useful, I'm gonna stock up on it tomorrow if there's any left.

5. I actually agree with them on this one
This is good advice if you happen to be caught so close to an event like this. Sure, it isn't the best alternative, but if there is no other immediate options, this is good advice. Inhaling radioactive dust and smoke is very, very bad.

6. But, unless you live in a lead-lined or poured concrete home/building
how do you prevent radiation penetration?

9. A lot of radiation is blocked by simpler methods than is often thought.
Though certainly not all, of course.

8. Yeah, I've been thinking that for sometime, that info. is being withheld. I think it
was Ed that was covering it tonight that the company running the plants has been known to be less than above board about safety, etc. They have a reputation for holding back info., apparently.

11. Duct Tape & Cover?
Just a play on a moldy oldie. That kind of logic means we should be shipping school desks to Japan so they can hide, in safety and comfort, under them.

That's a sad bromide and a pitiful palliative for people in critical and dire straits.

Yet, that's not new.

Makes me wonder about Tyler Durden's hypothesis that the oxygen masks on the airplane are actually there to make you passive and docile as you meet your doom. I mean, it's a nice thought and all. An oxygen high is a good way to go.
