With the international span of this site, and diversity of backgrounds, we could see some great experience based stories.
I learned at a young age that water can decide not to be available at a moments notice, so I always store a bunch. Same with gasoline, so the tank doesn't go under half before I fill up.
I've got my bug out bag, so if a forced evacuation were to occur, I can grab it and go.
I've got three manual can openers in different places. That one I learned from a cartoon when I was little. The cat was left at home, and all that was there were cans of tuna or cat food, but no opener. The mice had one, and hilarity ensued.
I just bought a house, and need to build my shelter and supplies before tornado season starts. I'm 1000 miles from a hurricane, but tornadoes have been known to eradicate towns, so I need to shore up my shelter.
In this economy, it is hard to keep cash on hand, and as a finance guy, it kills me to not have it invested, but you need to have it if banks are wrecked or the ATMs empty out.
