43rd Anniversary of the My Lai Massacre
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/My_Lai_massacre
The My Lai Massacre was the mass murder conducted by a unit of the U.S. Army on March 16, 1968 of 347–504 unarmed citizens in South Vietnam, all of whom were civilians and a majority of whom were women, children (including babies) and elderly people.

Please read about the bravery of Hugh Thompson, who threatened to shoot his fellow soldiers if they didn't stop the slaughter:

1. I'm tempted to say
remember and learn but all that seems to happen is that those of us old enough remember this awful event
do just the the former - remember it.

4. I'm hoping there is someone young who doesn't know about this
and might have their eyes opened a little more. The worst part is that this was hardly an isolated act, even for Americans, and that atrocities against civilians still occur in our present day wars.

6. Capt. Thompson and PFC Carter stood up to evil.
Thank you for the reminder, spooked911. From your second link:

"U.S. infantrymen had killed 128 Communists in a bloody day-long battle."

10. I wouldn't say "no one" but definitely, as a society, we're pretty numb to it
Still, it's our duty to speak out, and protest against the war.

9. Thanks for the reminder...

I remember first reading about it in a big photo spread in LOOK or LIFE. It was a epiphany.
