Final Version of Firefox 4 Coming March 22
Final Version of Firefox 4 Coming March 22

http://mashable.com/2011/03/16/final-version-firefox-4/?hpt=Sbin

If everything goes according to plan (i.e. if developers don’t find any particularly problematic bugs), the final version of Firefox 4 should be released March 22, according to a message posted on Firefox’s official forum.

“As of now, there are no known issues that would stop us from shipping RC1 as final. (…) March 22nd is the day we would ship,” writes Mozilla’s Damon Sicore.

The release candidate of Firefox 4 was launched one week ago; we’ve used it a lot during that time and found no significant bugs. Still, if a significant issue should arise before March 22, the ship date for the final version would be moved and we’d get an RC2 (release candidate two) version instead.

1. Have you tried it, AV?
Do you have the beta?

I'm using the IE9 beta right now and it's ok so far.

3. No, I shy away from betas...
...some day I'd like to set up a separate PC for beta testing, but now...with this one used for my business...I wouldn't install a beta.

7. I'm using 4.0 (not beta)
It's a lot faster than the 3 versions. Doesn't seem to lock up. About half the plug-ins are working. Doesn't seem to have the memory leak that the 3's had. It is using about 35-40 percent of my computer resources. That might change if I had more programs open.
Chrome might be a bit faster, but I really don't like the way chrome handles bookmarks and I really like the FF plugin "all in one sidebar".

2. I hope it is less buggy than the current version--that locks up constantly...
and apparently is totally unstable with the skype plug-in. Just my pet peeve, as I've used firefox for years, but lately it has become a real pain.

4. Agreed. Firefox is still 1000x better than Internet ExplHorror, but it has been bugged out of late.

5. Yep, my main complaint as well...
...up in the very top left-hand corner, the little fox icon turns to a white square, my cursor turns into an hourglass, and I just...sit...there...waiting.

About half the time I lose patience, close Firefox, and switch to another browser for a while.

6. I've been using the Beta 4.0b7 for a while now
Edited on Wed Mar-16-11 12:12 PM by blogslut
I like it. When the 4 Beta was first introduced I didn't like it because very few of my favorite plugins or themes worked with it so I rolled back to version 3. I waited until the testers and brave ones worked out the bugs. But like I said, this Beta I'm using right now has been quite pleasant.

8. I don't really like using betas either, so like most here, I'll wait for the final version

before switching from 3.xx But many thanks to the brave souls who beta tested it for the rest of us. God bless you each and every one. :toast:

9. I'm sure there are plenty of power users who can offer better advice
but I've been using FF4 (first the last beta, now RC1) on two different machines for about two or three weeks now. No major issues so far. I'm pretty confident they'll meet the 22nd release schedule.

Oh, and for those luddites who use IE, version 9 of that beast has been released.

10. Perhaps not luddites...
I always use IE and have no problems with it. It's fast and secure, because I know how to secure my machine and network. We used FF at home for awhile and I didn't think it was any great shakes different. Same with Chrome.

11. My son tried it on his Mac and didn't like it
He posted on Facebook, "I've tried Firefox 4 RC for a week, and I'm not impressed. Same bloated memory usage as 3.6 (ironic, given FF's origins). I'm officially switching to Chrome, see how that treats me."

For my part, I always wait on these things for a while until I'm sure the new release won't break my extensions. Had too many bad experiences that way in the past.

13. I love Firefox! But I'm afraid to use it again...
I got a new computer recently, and I use Chrome right now. I haven't downloaded Firefox, though it's my favorite browser by far. I had problems with it on my previous computer, and it got to the point where Firefox wouldn't open at all, and would lock up my system. Although I'm sure it's not due to Firefox, I had to replace my computer because it was so unstable. I also love using the extensions, but am afraid to use those too because they can screw things up. What to do?

I can't stand IE and never use it, but I do like Chrome. Only thing is, it eats up memory like crazy.
