Let's get it straight....the Fukushima 50 are really the Fukushima 200.

There are 200 older workers in rotating shifts of 50 in that facility. They volunteered or were selected because they are older and the long term effects of radiation exposure will be fewer due to their shorter remaining life span. These are all valiant souls. Let's give ALL of them their do rather than bestow a label that does not reflect the historical accuracy of the sacrifice they make for Japan and the world.

10. If Chernobyl is the model, the workers are martyrs facing death.
My perception is that there is not a feasible solution that is now known to corral the disaster.

Fire fighting helicopter water drops are useless.

Likely without some great insight, the disaster will be long and drawn out and I feel for Japan and the Japanese people and foreign ex pats and workers in Japan.
