Lots of responses and just about ALL of them say that violence in self defense is OK. I just think it's interesting considering all we've heard from the RW about how wimpy leftists are.

I couldn't support polititians that behave the way Republicans do.

As for the bullying incident, that little boy got what he deserved from the larger boy.

sometimes it involves other forms of intimidation too, including political intimidation. Standing up to bullying is standing up to bullying in ALL of it's forms.

It was actually more of an observation about the RW meme that's gone on for years about the Left being wimps. That doesn't seem to be the case anymore. If it ever was.

I never got in fights (well, a one-minute-two-punch fight when I was 10) but then, one night during a backpacking trip in Italy, three guys tried to rob me on a night train. I woke up just as one of the guys was swinging a baseball bat at my head. I will never forget the PRIDE on my father's face as I told him the story of how his gay son took on three guys...and kicked their asses.

So, yeah, I'm as liberal as they come and I'm not afraid of standing up to a bully.

Most of us aren't total pacifists, but you heard this bullshit all of the time from the righties. It's just nice to have it confirmed with a 98% belief in this DU poll on bullying and self defense.

They say leftists are wimps, but then they say every leftist is Lenin pretty much. Regardless of whether you agree with his views or not I don't think a man who led a revolution could be considered a wimp.

As a group, they tend to kowtow to authority figures and shrink from evenly-matched fights. They can be absolutely vicious, of course, but *only if*:

1. They feel their authority figures support them, and
2. The target of their aggression is helpless (greatly outnumbered, physically impaired, elderly, a child, etc.)

The tendency I've noticed from left wingers, generally speaking, is to be just the opposite. They're more likely to give authority the finger, even when it may not necessarily deserve the finger, and even when that authority is represented by a collection of beefy men in body armor and carrying nightsticks.

The RW mental attitude is the CLASSIC definition of a bully. Which is why we NEED to stand up to them. The positive reinforcement of getting away with bullying keep them doing it.

Of course, that's another LW trait in my experience. We all absolutely HATE bullys or at least bullying behavior.

I was bullied in school for years and years.

I was not going to fight back. Kids don't always grow up and get big and strong.

I was five foot three and 115 pounds. The big girls in PE who were hitting me in the head with basketballs were six feet tall and probably 200 pounds. I'm still five foot three but I weigh more than that now.

I was not going to fight because I didn't want to break my hands. I was in orchestra and was not going to do anything to jeopardize my participating in orchestra.

:) It was a martial arts system that was developed by a musician, which is why it emphasizes the feet more than the hands.

I'm a musician too (or at least I was), but I went into Chinese martial arts. I saw too many fights that ended up in close or on the ground to feel comfortable with something that was too long range.

I can understand. I've know true pacifists in my life. It's your choice whether to fight or not and HOW to fight.

Think about it -

They rely on corporations for their every need.

They lovingly accept corporate wage lowering and benefit cutting . . . over and over and over and over again.

They support bullying wars but never fight in them voluntarily.

They vote for corporate-enhancing politicians that lie their ass off and tell them "they're just like you!"

Their politicians are pro-censorship.

Their town halls are filled with people who agree with them.

The Tea Party protests FOR the path of least resistance.

They refuse to blame their rich owners who wanted more cash if they get fired, but blame themselves instead.

They watch a fake news channel which is pretty much PravdAmerican.

Like I say, the meme changes depending on what they WANT to use. Because of the number of imperialist wars that have been waged in our history, the wimp meme seems to be the one I've heard more often.
