"4:30 ET: Things have taken a nasty turn at Quantico.

As protesters silently moved to march to the Iwo Jima Memorial to lay a wreath to remember the dead, Marine MPs refused to allow all but press and six veterans to proceed on to the Memorial.

Prince William County police on the site joined the Marines in attempting to delay the protesters from proceeding, according to live tweeting by Jane Hamsher. In response, protesters laid and sat down on the ground, refusing to move.

Police then began arresting protesters one by one and are loading them on to two nearby police buses for booking. Daniel Ellsberg is among those being arrested.

One of the protesters there, Helen Gerhardt, tweets that protesters are being peaceful in response to police pulling them up by both arms and putting them behind the line.

Rootwork updates that some protesters have stuck “Free Bradley Manning” stickers on police riot shields.

1. doesn't sound so much "nasty"
as an orderly 'civil disobedience action'

The line of Virginia State Police, wearing riot gear for crowd control at the protest rally, held their clear shields in front of them, and each shield had a round, orange sticker saying “Free Bradley Manning” with his profile in black. Wonderful.

Pretty Mellow Mass Arrest.

4. Those state police shields being held up as though they're protecting themselves from
from vicious, uncontrollable violence is so gag-inducing. It's all about playing a perception game in front of the cameras. :eyes:

They came armed in a non-violent manner, just as the Wisconsin folks carrying signs.

Saturday in Madison the Iraq Vets Against War spoke on behalf of Manning. The empathy for this your hero was palpable.

Hats off to those who were arrested.

10. This is about 25 minutes from me and our local paper states -
- that 35 were arrested for walking/standing on Rt. 1 and refusing to get off so they declared it an "unlawful assembly". Rt. 1 is a busy, dangerous road and a major thoroughfare.

http://www2.insidenova.com/news/2011/mar/20/2/hundreds-rally-quantico-suspected-wikileaks-whistl-ar-916404/

Anyone refusing to get out of the road should be arrested. I use Rt. 1 - my children drive Rt. 1 - and it's difficult enough as it is. It would be horrible for an accident to occur due to people standing in the road. I support their right to protest but do NOT support them in endangering lives.
