'Air Claire' Scandal Turns: McCaskill Ponies Up $287K In BACK TAXES

:smoke: :smoke:

The pot calling the kettle black. The hypocritical stench is overwhelming for us regular folks who would probably be in jail by now if we conducted ourselves in that manner. I wonder if Claire had any harsh words for Clarence Thomas about his tax oversight? Welcome to the republican ' bullsh*t ' club...

Well, this isn't the way to put a scandal to bed. As if the fact that she charged taxpayers for her flights around Missouri in a private plane she owns with her husband and several investors wasn't enough, Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-MO) has revealed that she hasn't paid personal property taxes on the plane for four years.

And what's worse for McCaskill supporters, she suggested there might be more plane-related bad news to come.

The Senator told reporters today she's sending a check for $287,273 to St. Louis County, where the twin-engine plane she used to hop around Missouri is based. According to Politico, McCaskill also "said she had campaign lawyers looking into the flights to determine if any more in-kind contributions needed to be reported to be in compliance." That means there could me more news about the plane Republicans are already calling ClaireAir down the road.

McCaskill said she "discovered that the personal property taxes on the plane have not been paid" after conducting an audit of the 89 flights she repaid the Treasury for after reporters starting asking questions. It's not uncommon for Senators to use charter planes for official travel, and it's well within the rules for them to charge the federal government for the cost of that travel. But McCaskill admitted that one of the flights was political and had been improperly charged to taxpayers. She also repaid the government for all the rest of the flights, while still defending their legality. Today, however, she revealed that she will be writing more checks, this time to cover county property taxes.

7. Thomas is another issue all by itself. My point is should Claire be given a pass
just because she's a Democrat ( thats debatable also ) and only AFTER her so called ' oversight ' excuse was caught by a snooping reporter? We are not dealing with people who can't read or write or understand these issues. BOTH are very able people scrambling to cover their @sses ONLY AFTER getting caught. When are WE going to demand that such lame excuses from BOTH parties stop and such actions WON'T be tolerated anymore in the future? By tolerating these so called lame ' oversight ' excuses, we are giving notice and a big ' shouting out ' to all other politicians ( in BOTH parties ) to continue the same practices because, should they also get caught, we will be understanding once again and give them a FREE PASS just like McCaskill & Thomas received. The message here is if you can get away with it, why not try. In case you get caught, you will still get a FREE PASS just like everyone else received. Do you think a sitting judge would accept the SAME lame ' oversight ' excuse for us regular folks and give us the SAME golden FREE PASS as McCaskill & Thomas received? I doubt that very much.

5. Why do you need to pay property taxes for a plane?
Is she responsible for paying taxes at an airstrip?
