Sand Springs Police: Boy Takes Father's Car Keys After Crash

SAND SPRINGS, Oklahoma -- Police credit an 11-year-old boy with preventing further wrecks after he took the keys from his dad after a crash on March 15, 2011 in Sand Springs.

Sand Springs Police say officers responding to a fight outside a Sand Springs restaurant found 30-year-old Carey Purtscher staggering into his SUV. The arresting officer wrote in her report that she had to steady him to help him get out of the vehicle.

According to Tulsa County jail records, the boy told officers he had taken the keys out of the ignition after his father drove onto a sidewalk on Adams Road and struck a utility pole.

The arresting officer said the boy told her his father tried to physically force him to give the keys back, but the boy finally kicked him in the chest and knocked him down.

1. Wow, that takes real courage!
Good for that boy.

I hope his dad gets the help he so obviously needs.

Recommended.

It's a terrible responsibility and one that happens more than we'd like to hear about.

I don't think this was the first time the little fella had to 'man up' because the 'man' was acting like a child.
