I had to share this with y'all...
Last night, I stopped at a gas station on City Avenue here in Philly, right down from the State Police barracks. I pulled into the first pump behind a car which was stopped and a Trooper got out of the car and began to pump gas - I then realized that it was an unmarked car, although the Trooper was in full gear.
As I waited for the credit card validation at the pump, I noticed that there was a car backed up to the convenience store portion of the station with its hood up, and a young lady, with her 5-6 year old son were putting some sort of fluid into the car. I went back to watching the 3.50 a gallon gas go inot my car, marvelling at how fast the dollar amounts were increasing, and I looked up and to my horror, the woman had started the car with the hood still up, and pulled into a different area where there was an air pump.
I looked at the Trooper and said "Whoa!", he looked at what I was looking at and just stiffened. When she stopped the car and hadn't killed anyone, he just shook his head, smiled at me, and got back into his car, started it and left.
Maybe you had to be there...but it was just remarkable. I, of course, would have gotten at least a huge hollering at, if not a ticket.
