1. I remember most of the smoking ones and "women" ones. Some are quite something.

3. I thought the "didn't burn the beer" was funny
And I LOVE the smell of good pipe tobacco even though smoke makes me sick. :)

Some really awful stuff there though...

5. What's wrong with the women cooking sausages? And the woman scrubbing the floor
seems pretty innocuous too (I guess the problem there is that cleaning ads are never/rarely aimed at men?).

What strikes me as funny about these lists is how many of today's ads would never have been allowed in decades past - I bet a far higher proportion of modern ads would be unacceptable in the past than the other way around...

6. I remember being really grossed out by a Santa smoking one as a kid
It may have been the same one as in the article -- I'm not sure. But it seemed terribly, terribly wrong to me even when I was 15 or so.

Thorazine ads are always fun.

And here's a nice collection of cigarette ads...

9. A few of these could still be run actually
The Tipalet one I can actually see still running. I mean, half the booze ads in magazines these daysare worse and not even half as funny. And the WWII VD ad is amazing, don't care what anyone thinks. And the promotional literature you see with the army lit or in school sex ed stuff just changes up the slang really.

Mind you most of them or so ridiculously over the top, I can't even believe they ran even back then. Really Van Heusen? Wow. Just wow. Sexist, racist, and in poor taste. Wow. Makes me glad I already don't buy their products.

I will admit I laughed at the cellophane one. But by all that is holy, that couldn't have even sounded like a good idea back then. Marketer fail.

The Volkswagen one would still work if you substituted "teen" for "wife". Take your own implications away from that.

10. I'm not so sure the French one about beer is wrong.
One beer a day isn't unhealthy.

(Unless you have alcoholism, of course. Then again, albinos can't go to the beach.)
