Ohio woman accused of choking Walmart greeter, 71
ELYRIA, Ohio — Police say a pregnant woman and her mother were arrested after the older woman choked a 71-year-old Walmart greeter while leaving the store.

Elyria police say 49-year-old Toni Duncan, of Elyria, was asked to show a receipt Saturday and responded by pushing a cart into the greeter, grabbing his throat and choking him. She was charged with assault.

Her daughter, 21-year-old Ashley Jackson, of Elyria, was charged with aggravated menacing and inducing panic. The (Lorain) Morning Journal reports that she’s accused of saying she would blow up the store and that the greeter would be dead when her boyfriend learned of the incident.

Both face a court appearance Wednesday. No attorney for either was listed in court records, and no working phone number was found for either.

3. "People" of Wal*Mart..sigh...
Can I please be transported back in time to say, the late 70s..even the 90s??

And remain there until I die?

I can do w/o cellphones, microwaves, CDs, computers and the internet, thank you very much.

I know those decades had their share of problems, and idiots acting out in public, but I really, really don't like the downward economic, political, environmental, ecological, and social spiral of the US 21st century at all so far...

8. But if we show our receipts, what excuse would we use for choking elderly minimum-wage workers?

22. Yeah, I know
On the one hand, "just show them the receipt, jackass"

On the other hand, "just let the guy go without demanding his receipt, jackass"

18. One has nothing to do with the other, yes?
The Nutball family chose what they did. I suspect that the reciept was just their excuse. They could have just done as I do and either stop and explain why I'm not or just politely say "no thank you" and just walk on.

Please don't conflate respecting rights politely with assault and battery.

Edited on Tue Mar-29-11 04:51 AM by ProdigalJunkMail
so many people there are bound to be a few ready to just snap.

The coach on the field thing was Tom Gamboa a few years back. Clearly just a couple of drunk hooligans...but they rushed him on the field and attacked him pretty viciously...then the players got into it and the hooligans ended up the worse for their efforts.

The BK thing was a video posted here on DU a couple of days back of a girl that goes absolutely nuts over her burger taking too long. It was like 20 minutes wait (I guess that could send anyone over the edge) and she completely trashed that place.

Here's the OP on that one : http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=439&topic_id=758205&mesg_id=758205

19. Not necessarily. People can and do launch unprovoked attacks on others...
Here's an example with a 71-year old victim in the shopping centre just down from where I work that had a far worse outcome...

Bail refused over shopping centre attack

An elderly woman died an hour after being shoulder-charged in a busy Canberra shopping centre by man who did nothing to help her when she fell, a court has heard.

Matthew Raymond Nicholls, 31, of Ainslie in Canberra was refused bail after facing the ACT Magistrates Court for assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

It is alleged Nicholls knocked Jacoba Van Der Voorden, 71, to the ground in Civic on Thursday morning, half-an-hour before she had a suspected heart attack and died.

However, after choosing not to be represented by legal aid, Nicholls told the court: "It wasn't my fault anyway."

23. Here you go. The backstory.
http://www.aolnews.com/2011/03/29/ohio-women-ashley-jackson-toni-duncan-charged-in-assault-on-71/

<<According to police, Ashley Jackson, 21, and her mother, Toni Duncan, 49, were shopping Saturday at a Walmart in Elyria, southwest of Cleveland, when they became angry after a customer service employee did not assist them to their satisfaction in reloading a gift card and sending a money order.<<

And I really don't give a damn what the motive was, or if they were merely asked to show a receipt. The man was only doing his job.

24. LOL thats not background
Thats the polices version of what happened.

And I dont recall asking what you gave a damn about.

Just doing your job is no excuse for being a complete prick. Not saying he was just saying I dont buy the idea that people lost their minds over just being asked for a receipt and low and behold I was right there is more to the story. Even by the police account it was more than just having to show their receipt.

26. Sheesh, what a rude reply. You should apologize.
Sounds to me like you just want to root for the attackers and attack someone who expresses sympathy for the victim. And, no, you don't recall asking me what I thought either, because you didn't, but I told you anyway.
