Censored or fake news? Article on Japan radiation affecting Oregon coastal sea life...
Edited on Tue Mar-29-11 02:59 AM by cascadiance
I was doing some googling on what radiation is affecting us here on the west coast. Came across some news references to a story that looks to have been either deleted or locked down somehow on Huliq titled "Japan radiation killing sea life, warning for Oregon coast fishing industry".

Went hunting and found the cached version of the page here. Might not be up for long... Don't know if we want to cut and paste some content of that page if and when the cache gets deleted.

Is this a real story about radiation getting here, or is it someone trying to troll some crap to scare us all? I think more likely the latter, but perhaps some can shed light on whether there really is a disease called "leptospirosis", etc. discussed here and how that might be related at all to this mess.

1. fake story
if any radiation is affecting the sea life near Oregon, it isn't from Japan.

2. Yeah, just noticed the comment to that effect at the bottom too...

Sometimes I want to err on the side of letting people see what's being said rather than not see it all. That's why I made sure to put that question in the subject line of this post.

But perhaps this can serve as a warning to the kind of disinformation that could be out there that we need to keep an eye out for.

3. I am not sure the story is fake.
It seems to be a local effort, not edited, and containing a lot of misinformation.

And the information about dog owners being reluctant about wanting their dogs to be along the shore due to a “leptospirosis" outbreak - that all may be true enough. Leptospirosis is a communicable disease that can indeed go from sea life to dogs - but it is not a disease that has anything to do with radiation.

There have been leptospirosis outbreaks over the past few months here in California, affecting seals and elephant seals. And dog owners in California are also reluctant to have their dogs come in contact with anything floating along the shore. But again, this disease is caused by a bacteria and has nothing to do with radiation.
