11 hurt when gunmen open fire (Chicago)
Eleven people were hurt -- two seriously -- when gunmen opened fire near 75th Street and Vincennes Avenue in Englewood this morning and a fleeing car smashed into a CTA bus, witnesses and officials said.

It did not appear that anyone was wounded by gunfire, but instead were injured in the accident or by flying glass, the officials and witnesses said.

At around 9:30 a.m. , two men jumped from a red truck and began walking down the block, firing as the truck followed them, a witness said. They appeared to be aiming at a black Intrepid sedan.

"These young guys stepped out with AK-47s or Uzis or something and shot up the whole block," said Al Perkins, head cook at Ryan Anthony's restaurant in the 7400 block of South Vincennes.

1. The only logical solution to such occurrences ....
... is more guns.

3. You are correct, as usual.

If everyone on that block stepped out and blazed away, that would have solved the situation for sure. It would have made a better story too, since some people would have been killed. :sarcasm:

10. How about enforce the registration laws on the books?

Straw purchases in Philly to supply guns to Newark are legendary.
Also, if your gun is 'stolen', why don't you have to report that?

If your gun shop routinely sells guns that mysteriously end up being used in homicides or over-the-border in drug runners hands...shouldn't we be closing down your store?

14. You are saying stopping stolen gun sales is possible? How are illegal drugs....
sold daily if stopping it is possible?

I wish 100% we could remove all guns from the earth tomorrow. But we cannot and there are now 290 million guns in the USA.

They will be stolen like cars are stolen. And stolen guns will end up in the hands of bad people.

At this point the good guys need guns also. Many guns are used for self defense. It is beyond fixing at this point.

21. Possible? Probably not. We cannot stop all crimes from being committed.
However, if we pass laws with no intention or mechanism of enforcement, we're wasting our time.

We will not stop all gun violence no matter what we do -- we will never effectively ban all guns, and even if we made it mandatory for all citizens to carry big guns, crime would still happen.

19. We don't need more laws.
My guess is that all the guns used in Chicago in that shoot spree were illegal.

Enforce the laws and it might help.

13. People who are interested in serious discussions of this kind of thing come up with more sensible...
...suggestions, such as keeping violent criminals incarcerated.

16. We'll need more prisons.
It's a solution, but it's expensive and assumes that criminals are forever doomed to be criminals.

23. Most violent crimes are committed by repeat offenders
That is a fact. The payoff matrix is clear - The more violent offenders who are allowed to go back out into society, the more violent crime we will experience.

A lot of space in prisons could be freed up by releasing non-violent drug offenders, elderly prisoners, etc.

in the peaceful gun-control paradise of Chicago?

9. Gutted enforcement, that's how.
ATF was too busy smuggling guns to Mexico to notice what was happening here.
