Emanuel, Preckwinkle join forces to save money
Hoping to save some money by working together, Mayor-elect Rahm Emanuel and Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle are joining forces — maybe literally.

The two announced Tuesday that they're forming a joint committee of civic and government leaders to review how the two governments together can cut costs.

Specifically, the panel will review how the two governments "can best work together to cut costs, improve service delivery and streamline residents' interactions with government."

Included on the panel are Anthony Anderson, Midwest managing partner of Ernst & Young and chairman of the Chicago Urban League; Chicago United President Gloria Castillo; Alderman Pat Dowell (3rd); County Commissioner John Fritchey, D-Chicago; Instituto del Progreso Latino President Juan Salgado, and Paula Wolff, chairman of the Illinois State Highway Authority.

If Mr. Emanuel and Ms. Preckwinkle give the group free rein, they really could do some interesting, if controversial, things.

I really like Toni Preckwinkle. She is an African American woman who states that when she had her first meeting with Rahm after the election she gave him a book about the
inequities towards African Americans in the judicial and prison systems. We in Chicago and Cook county are deeply in debt. I'm curious about what they are going to do to
improve this.
