As we enter our second decade of war,a group of heroes remains hidden from public view. They are heroes, nonetheless.
The number of caregivers for our wounded veterans continues to grow. This responsibility is most often(96% of the time) a spouse or parent of an injured troop. Over forty percent of wounded veterans who need caregivers are between the ages of 18 and 54 years of age. One in four of the youngest wounded veterans are cared for by parents who will need help as THEY age.
With this in mind, here are some resources for the quiet heroes.
The National Resource Directory is a website put out by the Federal Government to help direct caregivers to resources. Their website is:
http://www.nationalresourcedirectory.gov/family_and_caregiver_support/caregiver_supportOn this site, you can find resources on qualifying for assistance in caring for a wounded veteran, obtaining medical equipment, support groups, respite care and hospice care.
If you are caring for a wounded veteran or know someone who is,please take a few minutes out of your overwhelmingly busy day to find out what is out there to help you and your veteran. There are programs out there to help you. You deserve the gratitude of a grateful nation, too.
