Kloppenburg stole the election.
The Koch brothers, the US Chamber of Commerce, Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce, and several other interested parties bought and paid for this election. It cost them millions. It belongs to them. If you take something that doesn't belong to you, that's theft.

own party and then the rest of the right gets the strong advantage, because those right-wing traits are much more dominant and out of balance in all aspects of our lives/"our" system.

17. I agree
It's been frustrating to watch almost the exact same dynamic occur both under President Clinton and President Obama. Both Presidents were kneecapped before they could (barely) get started. While not disparaging dissent and/or criticism, it would still be nice if we all could unite around one or two specific agenda items and stay focused long enough to make some progress towards achieving them instead of having a multitude of different subgroups constantly arguing with each other over how, when, where.............

I thought that we might've learned from what happened during Clinton's Presidency but I guess we're going to be stuck re-learning it again with President Obama. I just hope and, yes, pray, that President Obama is still given a chance to succeed (more) with the remainder of his term and, hopefully, election to a second term. Of course, he will really need a more progressive Congress to work with (more non-insane Republicans might help but they seem awfully lost at the moment in terms of being reasonable bargaining partners) if we want him to be able to get some more good policies signed into law.

19. There's so much that people NEED to understand: Self Fulfilling Prophecy, for one, but perhaps more
importantly, what this video, The Money Masters, means http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JXt1cayx0hs&feature=related - and - yes I know it has a Libertarian cast to it, but that does not change the truth of the history it outlines, nor does it affect what I/You do about it, so people need to credit the FACT that every time you say something "Obama opposes our needs/objectives. He is a traitor to his people" you make that possibility more and more and more likely/necessary. We ARE driving him further and further from ***ANY*** of our issues, because we are pulling the ground out from under him, thus making The Money Masters more and more and more powerful over him and us.

Self-fulfilling prophecy is VERY Real.

How exactly is an ultra libertarian video a perfect justification for blaming Dem electoral losses on those who refuse to walk in lockstep with flawed policies through thick and thin?

That is one big stretch if I have ever seen one.

73. I don't understand why people think you have to swallow ANY media whole, nor . . .
why so many people think everyone must accept or reject 100% what anyone else says about anything. Do you do that? Why do you think everyone else does? Why, especially when one sees wholesale oversimplified memes, such as "ultra" _________ & "... perfect ________" & "... blaming __________________." Not that those characterizations are completely invalid, and never happen, but that they obviously are NOT the only thing going on. And, yet, SOME people talk about what they apparently do not understand as though others being extreme or blaming were the ONLY possible explanation for something that they didn't even bother to ask enough questions about

Do you mean to say that everyone "... who refuse(s) to walk in lockstep with flawed policies through thick and thin ..." (a gross mischaracterization of what I said, btw, where did I say 'through thick and thin'? - and did I not say something like "AT THIS TIME"?) ... so, you're saying everyone knows everything they need to know in order to make whatever determination about how they "walk"? or do they even know enough of what they would need to know? or even if they did know the quintessential facts, it would be impossible for anyone to make any mistakes, or be dishonest with themselves or others, about their evaluation and their response of that knowledge?

Amongst other things, False Dichotomies, especially those couched in threadbare cliche rhetoric, are either naive or dishonest.

Do you think hacks get paid more for the use of certain specific words and less for synonyms or semantically related terms?

31. I was talking about the party in general
Edited on Wed Apr-06-11 02:20 PM by Proud Liberal Dem
The party- as a whole- has actually been pretty divided on just about all of those issues. Democrats tried to quash the Bush tax cuts/extend only the middle- and lower-class cuts in the midnight hour but got outvoted in Congress by Conservadems but, more important, lockstep Republican opposition and we got maneuvered into a compromise arrangement (which did get something for people in need).
Medicare-for-all was never put up for a vote but given that we barely got ACA through, I'd feel pretty confident in saying that that wouldn't have passed either. A further Medicaid expansion/public option was attempted but ultimately couldn't overcome a filibuster.
Obama wanted to/wants to close Gitmo but Congress, including several Democrats (unfortunately), chose to block the necessary authority/funding to do so.
The wars ARE/will be ending and people are (mostly) supportive of the timetable (although seem to be getting a little restless about Afghanistan).

If the entire Democratic Party, including members of Congress been completely united on any one of those issues from 2009-2011 and the public was on our side, they would've happened IMHO. That they didn't speaks to the fact that it's nearly impossible to get members of Congress and even the public to come to a consensus on anything absent some kind of catastrophe (think 9/11) that produces an urgent demand for something or just being willing to be a rubberstamp for the President.

49. So, where was the public outcry when neither of these things happened?
Edited on Wed Apr-06-11 05:47 PM by Proud Liberal Dem
Unfortunately, in both of those cases, such massive overwhelming support didn't translate into pressure on Congress and/or the Republicans to enact them and the 2010 midterms certainly didn't result in an outcome favorable for either issue to be enacted anytime in the future. Obama did try to close Gitmo but faced a revolt from several members of his own party. Where was the public in pressing Republicans and NIMBY Dems to close Gitmo? Where was the overwhelming pressure to get single-payer? It didn't materialize AFAIK. I totally agree with you on both points but sometimes majority (or even supermajority) support doesn't always translate into support for congressional action.

deep doubts about both of those issues. Should I tell them they are not Democrats? What do I say if they tell me that I'm not a Democrat?

In short, we have not united around anything and what we have going on right now is a bunch of Democrats on the right and on the left who are triangulating for various kinds of payoffs from somekind of "third way". Everyone puts their own ideals ahead of everyone else. Unity, the very thing that Republicans beat us with every time, be damned; is it any wonder that weak leaders fail to learn how to be strong when they know that they have, not only Republican opposition to fight, but also BOTH wings of our own party and in dealing with that situation they can lose "the middle" TOO!?

let's keep talking about it that way -- and reminding ourselves of that reality!!

And, sadly, let's also remind ourselves that the Repugs didn't bring us to the edge

Yes, their money has bought a HOLLYWOOD SOUNDSTAGE which we have to break thru --

from the GOP/Christian Coalition to the GOP/NRA, from the GOP/Pro-life Murderers to

the GOP/Computers --

time to crash thru and see that it is all Koch Bros. T-Baggers!!

The only way the rightwing can rise is via political violence and we've had 50 years

of that -- in '63 it took not only our president, but our people's government.

Stolen elections, lies and a lot of $$$ fill in the gaps!!

60. K&R
All that money down the toilet. Hopefully there's a way for those groups to recoup their failed investment via some kind of government payout program.

79. anybody see Rachel the other night?
Labor is fighting back, but this is so disturbing. What appears to be happening is that the repukes are attempting to break labor (what little is left) because unions generally donate to democrats. Now the very partisan supreme kangeroo court has decided that corporations now can even have more influence on our elections (even foreign corps)--apparently more power than the citizens of this country.

The repukes are going all out to squelch any labor movement for their greedy corporate friends--we're talking about no more two party system, but one party dominating-owned by domestic and foreign corporate masters -now I'd say that is fascism!

What truly disturbs me is the damn teabaggers are in agreement with this plan or they are totally clueless. Which is it? They must know they are backed by the wealthy and corporate interests--interests that could care less about the well being of this country or its' people.

I pray more people start waking up before these teabagging repukes cause too much damage to the people and the country.
