President Obama's main reason for calling the Eagles owner had nothing to do with Vick
NEW YORK CITY -- The Obama administration confirmed on Monday afternoon that the president, in a call with the owner of the Philadelphia Eagles, expressed gratitude for the team's decision to give a second chance to quarterback Michael Vick.

But the nexus of the call, spokesman Bill Burton told The Huffington Post, was on the team's plans to use alternative energy sources at their stadium. And while the president was thankful that Vick was given a career do-over, he still thought that the actions committed by the QB -- the orchestration of an illegal dog-fighting ring, the killing of animals and the deceiving of investigators looking into the matter -- were condemnable.

Here's Burton's statement:

The President did place a call to Mr. Lurie to discuss plans for the use of alternative energy at Lincoln Financial Field, during which they spoke about that and other issues. He of course condemns the crimes that Michael Vick was convicted of but, as he's said previously, he does think that individuals who have paid for their crimes should have an opportunity to contribute to society again.

1. Then the smart thing to have done, by a multi-dimensional chess-playing
president, would have been to talk about "the team's plans to use alternative energy sources at their stadium," wouldn't it?

Stay on topic, no controversy. Simple.

13. I'm sure he values my critique as much as my vote, anyway. nt

2. 'Cause I could pass that football
Look at me now
Four years of college
Famous professors
Tutoring me

Scholarship kid
Everything paid for
Food and vacations
All of it free

Day that I left
Everyone gathered
Their cheering still rings in my ears

Ray Wreck rah
Rah Wreck Ray
Rah Wreck
Wreck rah
Rah Wreck, Wreck
Wreck, we love you

'Cause I could pass that football
Like nothin' you have ever seen

Couldn't spell a lick
Couldn't do arithmetic
One and one made three
Thought that dog was C A T

But I could pass that football
Like nothin' you have ever seen

Couldn't write my name
Couldn't translate 'je vous aime'
Never learned to read
Mother Goose or Andre Gide

But I could pass that football
Like nothin' you have ever seen

Couldn't figure riddles
Puzzles made me pout
Where the hell was Moses
When the lights went out?

I couldn't even tell red from green
Get those verbs through my bean
But I was buddies with the dean
Like nothin' you have ever seen

Passed without a fuss
English Lit. and Calculus
Never had to cram
Even passed the bar exam

'Cause I passed that football
Like nothin' you have ever seen

Couldn't dance for beans
Mashed my girls to smithereens
Sometimes blood was spilled
Still my card was always filled

'Cause I could pass that football
Like nothin' you have ever seen

Then there was the week
Albert Einstein came to speak
'Relativity'
Guess who introduced him? Me

'Cause I could pass that football
Like nothin' you have ever seen

Had no table manners
Used to dunk my roll
Always drunk the water from the fingerbowl

Though I would not get up for any she
The prexy's Mom, age ninety-three
Got up and gave her seat to me
Like nothin' you did ever see

In our hall of fame
There's a statue with my name
There we stand, by heck
Lincoln, Washington and Wreck

'Cause I could pass that football
Like nothin' you have ever, ever seen

4. That's a shame - it is crazy.
The main thing that I see out of all of this mess is that President Obama supports giving a second chance to people that have paid for their crimes (and in this case - in prison). We are a nation of laws, and President Obama respects the laws of our land, he recognizes that Vick was convicted, served his sentence, and has a 'right' to live out the rest of his life without being further penalized.

6. Perhaps if Obama had mentioned that support in another context besides..
Besides a psychopathic level sadistic torturer given a multi million dollar contract for playing a fucking game it would have gone over better..

8. "has a 'right' to live out the rest of his life without being further penalized"
Right. As long as Vick walks the long and narrow and does public good to counter-weigh his crimes against dogs, this person is ok with him.

5. The President is also a private individual -- he ought to be able to call
anyone he wants and have opinions without getting crap every time.

9. Obama was trying to pump a person that spent money to create
jobs and bring about one of Obama's key objectives, green energy. That Obama's words will get twisted because he complemented a rehabilitating ex convict borders on the irresponsible.

10. He's a public figure. Doesn't your job description contain the "other duties as assigned"
clause?

Mine does. that means taking criticism for a monumentally stupid move--and I LIKE the President, but this was damn stupid on his part if he couldn't see it coming.

11. I don't think that saying folks that have served their time deserve a second chance
once they are out of prison was a stupid comment.
People that serve their time for their crime DO deserve a second chance.
It is how our laws of this country work, and it is the Christian thing to do.
President Obama is a Christian and he believes in redemption.

17. K&R- the plans for stadium were made public a few weeks ago- It will
cost big money to install, but will make the stadium self sufficient for electricity.
