This always happens these days. Democrats always let things get down to the wire, and then cave in to the GOP because there s "no choice" to avert disaster.
Happened with the tax cuts. Now it's the current budget.
And the next round is going to be the bigger budget battle. And looking forward, it's likely that we're going to get rolled again.
The GOP has already set the terms with Ryan's proposed Big Budget Plan.
Sure it's awful. But they have set a specific Bar that establishes the framework for next years budget.
And most likely the Democrats will allow themselves to be forced to be working off this frame...And will make counter demands, based on THE GOP PLAN, which the GOP will not yield on....AND it will eventually get down to the wire again.
And then, faced with a looming deadline, the Dems will cave in and accept some very slightly toned down version of the GOP budget, because "there is no choice."
How about actually setting our own proposed budget plan, based on liberal priorities, and go to the fight armed with that?
And how about starting now, with our own coherent plan -- and actully start fighting for it in a pro-active way, instead of just trying to stave off the worst excesses?
Just a suggestion.
