1. Whoa, that certainly sounds like a biggie
Director whose credits consist of several TV episodes of One Tree Hill, a writer who has apparently never written anything but this before, and some TV actresses. No thanks.

2. The movie's tag line is "Who is John Galt?"
Dozens of people are going to find out this weekend.

14. No one is going to find out this weekend...
because no one but hardcore Randroids are going to this movie--and they already know who he is.

In the real world, if John Galt disappeared his company would take possession of his invention--last I checked, any invention you make on behalf of a company belongs to it--file an injunction prohibiting Galt from profiting from this invention, and go on making the thing. John Galt would be reduced to mowing lawns and the world would continue as before.

8. I wish the writer had never written anything before.
Imagine an Ayn Rand free world.

19. Nothing wrong with science fiction.
Don't lump Rand's trash in with a perfectly good genre.

22. But there is something wrong with BAD science fiction.
The best science fiction incorporates truth and uses elements of today to see what tomorrow would be like. Atlas Shrugged is the worst kind of science fiction. The kind in which the author creates a distopia with the sole intention of propping up her dismal ideology. I'm a big sci-fi fan, but Rand's tripe is certainly part of the genre.

23. Agreed.
Terry Goodkind's tripe is just as bad when it comes to fantasy. Of course, Badkind is a devotee of Rand.

5. Fifteen days late
The previews I've seen don't look hella promising. The characters are emotionless, the plot (a RAILROAD? Really?) is not going to appeal to many people who were born after 1950, and let's face it, the whole thing is utterly preposterous.

I'll be watching Rotten Tomatoes for this one. Some of the reviews (written by the literate) are going to be loads of fun.

33. I read a review by a hard-core Randian who watched with baited breath
Praying it wouldn't be a turkey.

Funniest review I evah read. The movie was fantabulous with fantabulous tv cast. Made-for-tv movie fantabulous. Except the trailer sucked. And the writer changed this, that and t'other thing. And the acting sucked, among other minor details. In other words, a disaster. How quickly will this head to dvd and the trash?

Oh, but the cinematography was great (per the reviewer).

7. In other news, Elbo shrugged.
I'll be rearranging my socks by style and color, then mixing them up again. Or if they come out with Friday the 13th in 5-D - Jason Does Needlepoint, I'll go see that instead.

9. Funny how the reactionaries' bible couldn't get the funding
They did it on a proverbial shoestring, and were only able to do the first third. The clips I've seen have all the look and taste of low-budget: tiny crowds and cheap production values.

May it suck like a dyson.

10. I saw the preview Saturday night and noticed that not a single actor or actress did I recognize.
Then I noticed is was Part I and sighed. Perhaps it will fail at the box office.

13. It's supposedly pretty low-budget and has terrible acting. Yawn.
I will watch it for free on Hulu when it goes straight to video after a miserable failure in the box office.

and after the thing makes three dollars and 42 cents, they'll never be allowed to make another.

26. OMG I can hardly wait!
I absolutely LOVE bad movies, and this one looks like it's going to give The Fountainhead a run for its money. Look up "schlockfest" in the dictionary, and the promotional poster for Atlas Shrugged is sure to be there.

Can a musical adaptation be far behind? Be still, my heart!
