Chesapeake Energy Suffers Gas Well Blowout on Anniversary of BP Spill
"Chesapeake Energy has lost control of a natural gas well in the Marcellus shale that was in the process of being fracture stimulated. Thousands of gallons of salt water, likely mixed with minute quantities of chemicals used in the controversial but long-established fracking process have reportedly spilled out of the well and into a stream near Canton, Pa. The suspected cause of the incident, which occurred just before midnight Tuesday, is a cracked well casing."

"Bradford County Emergency Management Agency Deputy Director Skip Roupp was quoted as saying that there was a crack in the top part of the well, below the blowout preventer."

"The fluids reportedly overflowed a containment area and leaked into a tributary of Towanda Creek."

3. Yes, it's rather odd, isn't it?
I mean who cares whether they destroy the entire state of Pennsylvania, along with West Virginia, Ohio, and New York.

They're safely tucked away in Oklahoma City.

2. Chesapeake Energy owns over a million acres in the Marcellus Shale play, which covers most of PA.
They also own Governor Tom Corbett. He STILL REFUSES to CHARGE THEM AN EXTRACTION TAX. Meanwhile, they are ruining our environment with no consequences.

5. Update on Story:
"An equipment failure on a Marcellus Shale natural gas well in northeastern Pennsylvania late Tuesday night caused a blowout, allowing thousands of gallons of chemically laced hydraulic fracturing fluid to flow from the site for at least half a day."

"More than 16 hours after the blowout began at 11:45 p.m. Tuesday, frack fluid was still spewing out of the Chesapeake Energy well in Bradford County, county and state officials said."

"Seven families who live adjacent to the site in Leroy were evacuated as a precaution, and a local farmer was told to not let his cows drink surface water on his farm, officials said."

6. Meanwhile:
"Ms. Gresh said it took till mid-afternoon Wednesday for Chesapeake's crews to stop the fracturing fluid from running into a nearby tributary of Towanda Creek -- a state-designated trout stock fishery that eventually flows into the Susquehanna River."

7. "I don't think it will really do any damage, other than pollute the stream."
That's a quote from one of the township supervisors.

Classic.
