Three cheers for this corporation, and a chuckle.
Tata, founded in 1868, has spreading wealth as its purpose, is big and growing, and is expanding internationally.
http://www.tata.com/

They irony is in its business in the UK. The British Empire's companies came to India with the purpose of profit and making its rich wealthier. India now comes back to the UK via Tata with jobs to spread the wealth back to the former colonies. Tata now owns Jaguar/Land Rover and Tetley Tea (the largest tea company in the UK) and Corus steel, now Tata Steel Europe.

And they are in the electric car and solar panel business. Hip hip hurray!

1. Tata steals American IT jobs
Tata ships people from India here on H1-B visas to take jobs at places like Fannie Mae and other big companies. Some years ago they set up dormitories outside Washington DC where the Tata workers could live very cheaply while saving their money to bring back to India. This enabled Tata to undercut the salaries of American citizens who worked in the computer industry. I know people who are unemployed or underemployed because of this situation. This doesn't mean that I hate Indians. I hate the corporations that play people from one country against people from another to destroy the livelihood of thousands upon thousands of people.

As far as I'm concerned, Tata sucks.

3. That doesn't make sense.
How can a company ship people, like they owned them, to the US to work at a completely different companies? Do international corporations get to exchange employees at will throughout the world with other corporations? That is really scary if that is so.

Companies and people go where opportunities to do business exist where and when they can. I find more fault with the US immigration rules and laws that allow foreign workers to displace native ones from jobs. Some lawmakers here gave them the green light and visas else they would not even have had the chance to be here on these programs.

The question is, with international corporations doing business and moving headquarters almost at will around the world, what is the charter or purpose of such that you would buy its products or wish to work for? One that spreads wealth to many, or one that concentrates it back to the investors? Pirates or co-ops? And does it matter so much where it is based?
