Florida Officer Arrested After Video Shows Him Punching Inmate

The video below has resulted in the arrest of a Brooksville Florida police officer, Detention Sgt. David Dixon, after he was shown punching an inmate in the face for no apparent reason. The sheriff said that man was just “running his mouth” and did not deserve to be punched at the Hernando County Jail.

make it a crime take videos of law enforcement personnel doing their jobs. If you can't show a video of them abusing someone then magically it didn't happen. Right?

If videos are the only effective way to prove that law enforcement abuses people, then of course, instead of embracing these videos as a way of enforcing honesty and integrity, the police departments are trying to criminalize anyone who has a camera.

Just having a camera is now enough to warrant harassment from police in many public places, even where it is legal to have a camera. a lot of police are refusing to recognize that the cameras are still legal. It is becoming a war against civilians.

When you add to this the growing trend of police departments refusing to come out to write out police reports when crimes have occurred, and/or refusing to investigate crimes, and being hostile (sometimes violently hostile) to the people who called them for help, you have to wonder what purpose the police serve?

Who are they serving and protecting?

Are they worth the cost that comes out of our tax dollars if they are going to harm more of our taxpayers more than they protect them?

If police are becoming blatant enforcers of class warfare, working to protect rich people and businesses but not working to protect most of "we the people," then how do we get real, enforceable, system-wide reforms that hold everyone with power and authority responsible for how they use that power and authority?

Nowadays, they're indispensable.

I wonder if that deputy was arrested also, it was certainly assault.
