CBS News anchor Bob Schieffer: Trump spinning ‘an ugly string of racism’

CBS News anchor Bob Schieffer, host of Face the Nation, is known for delivering a straight, no-frills, pragmatic news show -- but last night's broadcast of CBS Evening News was a little different.

Reacting to President Barack Obama releasing a more detailed, long-form version of his official birth certificate from the State of Hawaii, Schieffer pointed squarely at billionaire real estate mogul Donald Trump, accusing him of spinning "an ugly string of racism."

Thursday morning, Trump lashed back, telling celebrity gossip website TMZ.com that he's "the last person that such a thing should be said about."

1. I did not know he'd said that.

I'm quite surprised. I thought maybe a few people may start calling it out for what it really is, but I honestly never expected it to be a high profile news anchor. Good for him!

I read his biography a couple years ago and was surprised to learn he's more left than right.
