We need Obama be here in America. He is going to visit tornado's hardest hit area. and Watching launch of the space shuttle Endeavour.

2. Not inviting Obama was no big deal.
They only tend to invite all of the other heads of state when it's the heir apparent who's getting married, and (at least for now) the heir apparent is Charles--not William.

And yes--we need him here. From what I'm hearing, the tentative death toll right now has jumped to 319 with more still missing, which (if it does indeed turn out to be true) makes this the worst and deadliest tornado outbreak that we've ever seen. :(

4. Also, the security arrangements would have made a huge mess of things
and would have detracted from the event. Anyhow, it wasn't actually a "state" function; just a wedding, which I understand is being paid for by the Queen and not the UK government.

5. *nods* Yep.
It was not an official state function because William is not yet the official heir. It was basically just a fancy wedding for some rich people, lol.

:hi:

7. Not quite the worst
The Tri-State Tornado of 1925 killed more than 600 people.

Not to downplay this. My father saw tornadoes going past his place in Birmingham. Terrifying.

6. He probably asked them not to invite him.
The image of him at some lavish party while his own country struggles would be monstrous fodder for the right. Incredibly bad optics. I'd guess the non-invite arrangement was made a while ago. Just a guess, but I'm pretty sure that's the case.

8. They should have invited him but the Queen is still pissed about those DVDs...
Michelle then should have gone...if it's a state occasion, our head of state should have been invited...I think the whole thing is a farce, but it was a deliberate snub by the Queen.

10. Technically heads of state are not invited to the royal wedding - just other royal families
:D
